Fuel Leak

I've owned my 89 Max for 5 years now, it runs great! Recently I resolved my stalling problems thanks to this forum - Thank you Guys! I two years ago I replaced all the mounts, just to maintain my level of committment. There's one problem I havent gotten around to fixing and that is the notorious fuel leak that only occurs during cold weather. Once the engine warms up the leak and fuel smell disappear. I guess it's pure physics, cold weather loosens the hose, warm weather tightens the hose.

I've read some accounts addressing this issue. Here's my question: How difficult/ or easy it is to repair or replace the tiny hose that connects the fuel line to the engine? I've asked around my neighborhood and some guys want $800 to $1500 (at the dealer ofcourse), because the say they have to take the top of the engine off just to get to replace that hose... and clean all the other whatevers they might find... yaddi yaddy yadda... "it's a big job" Are these ****'s accurate? One guy told me that you just can't put any ole hose there, it has to be a "special nissan hose" -- this and that -- worth $20 because "it's weather sensitive". What's the real deal here?

Re: Fuel Leak

I too have a 89 Max and with this cold weather I have had the exact problem. As I found by searching on this site, that i needed to replace the hoses or tighten the clamps. I proceeded to tighten the feul line clamps (4). Then i found the tiny hose you are refering to. I noticed that gas was leaking from this hose. The leak was right by the "front" clamp. The clamp can be seen, and it you get in there with a phillips screwdriver you can just reach this clamp screw and tighten it, with a bit of help by a flathead screw driver keeping the clamp from rotating away from you. With great relief there was NO SMELL at all this morning.. 15 min should fix this problem.. Good luck
