o2 Sensor replacement

o2 Sensor replacement
I just replaced my toasted o2 sensor. For a few months my gas mileage has been declining steadily, my idle worsening steadily, power lessening, and smoke has been coming out the tailpipe.
This weekend, it got bad. The car started trying to stall and it would flood and n ot start again for hours. So I finally bit the bullet and bought a sensor today.
So far, the idle's better, the power's back, the smoke's gone and I haven't had it flood yet. I'll make another statement about the gas mileage when I can calculate it.
In conclusion: If your car runs poorly and gets bad mileage...Check your oxygen sensor.

Re: o2 Sensor replacement
I have two questions.. since you already replaced O2 sensor. I have difficulty in getting Bosch O2 sensor here
What brand was there (original OEM)in your Car before you did replacement? Bosch, NTK or some thing else
What brand did you get as replacement?
Thanks

Re: Re: o2 Sensor replacement
I have no Idea what brand was OEM. I do know it was all plugged up and nasty looking. I chose Bosch over the OEM because I'm partial to their products and I feel they are of excellent quality.

Re: Re: o2 Sensor replacement
Yeah I think I have that also. I have exhaust fumes coming up out of my hood. If I listen I can hear the exhaust coming out of the manifolds. Both front and rear (Left and Right?) Manifolds have the problem. Sigh, more space in the pit for money to fall into.

Re: Re: o2 Sensor replacement
I just replaced mine today. The OEM sensor didn't have any markings except for a Nissan hamburger logo on the sensor. I bought the NTK and it's a direct replacement. Connector and wiring harness clamps are all exactly the same. You have to steal the black clip off the old sensor so the connector will attach back onto the motor mount but that's it.
I had 140k on my old one and you could tell it was time. I was only getting about 290ish miles to every 15 gal of gas. Plus it would idle slightly rough despite a recent tune-up.
I could tell it ran noticably better on the way home.

you can see the bung on this one, just to the right of the flex section.
your best bet is to spray it down with penetrating lube, wait, and hit it with an o2 sensor wrench.
if you don't have one, you can try using the CLOSED side of a box wrench, to avoid stripping the head. will have to disconnect the harness and fish it through, or cut the wires, depending.
I think the o2 sensor wrench is one of the loaner tools autozone/oreily has, but not sure.

I got 2 from the local pull-a-part I just used an adjustable wrench and it came right off. The hard part was trying to unplug the darn thing from the electrical connector, I just cut it off at the end of the electrical connector.

Ok, I'm gonna try and revive a dead thread here, since I haven't met my 15 post quota to start a new one. I am trying to check my o2 sensor, I heard a good way to see if it's faulty is to unplug it, and see if that helps with performance. I am trying to follow the wires up to the plug, but I lose them. Does anybody know exactly where the plug is?
