Head Unit wiring cut...

All,

I just got a 93 SE 5spd. The only thing wrong with it is that there is no head unit. I got the car at auction and it looks like somebody cut the wiring that goes to the head unit. What do I need to do to connect the wiring to a head unit I will eventually buy? Thanks in advance.

Pete

does it have bose or not?

you can probably just buy an adapter harness to plug in to an aftermarket HU. should only cost about $10 or so from best buy/pep boys. it's the Metra wiring harness for 89-94 maxima.

If the wiring was cut they might have take the harness out..just get a manual for the wiring diagram or get a multimeter and figure out what wire is what..find the ground and constant power (memory) first, then the switched power. That's all there is besides speaker outputs. You can figure out which is which a few ways. I have used a walkman to put signal into the speakers, or a 9v battery..just touch and remove quickly to the speaker wires and listen for the little pop. Or you can wire up the head unit, pop in a dist, and connect away, to figure it out..but really none of these methods are very good for the speakers. I never had a prob, but it risks damage to the speakers. just get a wiring diagram..alot easier.

It does have bose, but i think the speakers were taken out of it. So i intend to replace the speakers as well.

I'll check out the harness. thanx

head down to your local junk yard. see if u can snag a harness...they will prob let it go for cheap. splice it to your car. then you're back to where u should be..install the radio as usual.

I did the same thing, I had a stock Bose setup and took it out and replaced it with 4 speakers, and a Kenwood Headunit. The pain is trying to replace the front speakers, cause the bose made this weird plastic housing and you'll most likely need to cut into that.

Also, check out craig's site.

But that little pod is ported and will make the speaker sound much better..better than just pumping iin and out of the open inner door skin. I used sheet aluminum, some small screws and siliconed the hell out of it. Sounds great. definately not an easy drop in though. I'm sure someone makes adapter plates for this..maybe the non-bose system parts would be easier.

That small port does help. When i replaced my speakers with infinity kappa's i stuffed behind the speaker with poly fill and put a small amount of silicon sealant arount the speaker to fill the gaps. This way it still uses the port.
