auot tranny vacuum hose

on the aut tranny, there is a (7/16 inch?) black vacuum hose coming off the top cover--mine is just dangling with a c-shaped steel tube on the end of it---seems like it should go to the intake manifold somewhere, just where does it go? Tranny does reverse ok but only goes forward about 2mph. Would it be safe to tee this hose into the vac line for the power brake booster so I can drive the car home to my garage?

thanks for the tip, I was going nuts looking for where it went to. Any clues on the tranny problem? in drive, the car rolls forward, then the motor spins, but the tranny totally slips, reverse is ok.

oops, did'nt think to try that, forgot to check the fluid level also, don't think too clearly late at night--going over to the car in a few min.--anything else you can think of I should check? it's my buddies car, said he would sell it to me for 500, motor runs sweet & smooth, body and interior are very good, would like to save it.

The fluid is a sure thing to check. Also maybe do the self diagnostic procedure listed on here somewhere for the re4fo2a trans.

I went over & checked the fluid, motor running, level was OK, but dirty, a lot of black stuff on the paper towel. It does seem to grip a little better in d1 &d2, slowly gets up to 20mph. Looks like a fluid change for sure, maybe that will help, do these trannies respond at all to transfix or other additives?
thanks for the pointer on the tranny dx post, will try to find.

it sounds like the low clutches are probably burned up or non-functional due to a seal or sealing ring failure. It will probably require a rebuild. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
