Syncro problem?

the people selling me the car say the clutch feels good, but going into second gear seems to not ingauge properly, they think someone installed the clutch but didnt adjust it properly or at all. I am curious what you guys think it could be.. Could it be the tranny, clutch , or syncronizer? no other gears do this from what he tells me.

Also Please Help Me Sell My 94 Yamaha FZR600 i have tons of extras and only want 2000.00 for it. All it needs is paint! it blue books for 3500. Its the money to finalize the sale of the car , please help!

I am no tranny expert, but wouldn't every gear be a problem if the clutch wasnt adjusted properly?

true. what kinda warranty you getting on the car? Best bet is take it to 2 different mechanics and get their opinion.

sounds like a syncro, and your gonna have to drop the tranny so you might as well rebuild the whole thing while its out, Mabey $1000-2000 but then youve got a new tranny.

Yo, if it aint grinding or popping out of gear..let it go. My second gear has been real notchy since day one that I've had it. The synchros get worn, but until you hear it grind when it engages, it's not worht the $$ and effort IMO. In fact, I had a frind who had an old BMX 2002, he blew his 2nd gear synchro (doing Donuts!) and was bugging. He just dealt with it and learned how to shift without grinding it. It's a matter of practice, finding the right rpm and pressure and probably wearing down the edges of the gear. After a few weekes you couldn't even tell there was a prob when he shifted! Not syaing this is what you should do, but don't sweat ti tooo much.

could just be the linkage needs adjustment, have a good tranny mechanic look at it. As a side note, you can shift the tranny without even using the clutch, "power shifting". Just before shifting, rev up the motor slightly and then quickly shift, no clutch action required. The idea is to match the speed of the spinning motor with that of the transmission. It might take a little practice, but this CAN be accomplished without grinding any gears, which can be unnerving to say the least, until you get the hang of it. I know some racers that only power shift-makes for faster gear changes, and no clutch slippage since the clutch plate is never disengaged. Not reccommended as a long term practice, ultimately will eat your gearbox, but will get you by on a temp. basis or might even get you a lower ET. In my case, I drove my rx-7 more than 6k miles that way because I was in the middle of a cross-country trip--the service manager at the mazda dealer in North Platte Nebraska drove my car and showed me how to do it, since I couldn't wait 4 days for them to fix it, ( 4 days in Nebraska?- get me outta here! continued on to INdiana and back to california, still have not fixed it and driving daily).
I just got a quote for $750 for a low mileage/6 mo unlimited mileage warranty automatic for me 91 maxima se, another $225 to install--sounds like a good deal to me, unless somebody out there knows how to power shift a badly slipping automatic.
