Frustration abounds in my garage...

I'm having a dilemma with my Bose system. I'm attempting to install (keyword attempting) a JVC El Kameleon on my stock Bose amps/speakers. I've searched these boards up and down and got all the instructions I could ever want, and I purchased everything that I need to make this work.

Here's my setup right now:
Head unit -- Scosche FAI-3 adaptor -- Nissan wire harness -- car

It's all installed and the head unit powers up, plays CD's, all that jazz... except... no sound. I know the amps are turning on; I can hear them click on when I turn on the car and I can get some crackling from them when I play with the grounds (I ran the head unit and Scosche grounds to the chassis instead of to the system's non-existant grounds).

So my question is, did anyone else have this problem? The only thing I can think of is that I haven't plugged in my antenna because I haven't purchased the 1-prong adaptor. Would that cause no sound to come out? Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Neil

even without the antenna plugged in, you should still be able to hear sound from CD and at least static from the radio tuner

on most of the scosche adapters, there are adjustable levels for each speaker so make sure those are turned up

if the unit powers up allright, then the ground probably isn't the problem. I'm not really sure what else would cause that unless it's some weird settings on the JVC unit

The antenna not being plugged in wont cause it not to play. Unfortunately, I can't really help you even though I had the same problem. I have a jvc kameleon lx 100. First off, it was a b@$*h to install using bose speakers. Even after that, it whined and thumped whenever I turned it on and off. I went to Mobile-One (an audio authority in Houston) and they told me in their words, "It's absolutely impossible". I then took it, against my better judgement, to some mexican guy (no offense or pun intended) and he hooked it up right (of course with the whining). There weren't any direct cable matches even though he used a harness, and so wires were spliced together and all that. Looked like a trial and error job. But it did work. According to him, "the wires that were supposed to match didnt and so he tried another method he had used in the past"(trial and error). Well I used it for a while but the whining and thumping didn't float my boat, so I went out and got new speakers and VOILA!! It worked perfectly fine. I must also warn that it isn't adviseable to use the existing wiring which is..12years old.. for the speakers..Just run fresh wires. Eventually you will get new speakers, so I suggest you buy em and install now...will save a world of stress.....Oh! and take your stereo to a known car stereo store like bestbuy. Once they see you've done most the work, they shouldnt charge more than $20 to hook it up if you talk to them right. Else, pull out the tester.
