Re: Trunk rattling

Well I have two 12 inch Eclipses with a 1000 watts going to them and I have no rattle. Most cars that have there liscense plates on the trunk get a rattle. Another reason why Maximas are the sh**t.

Nope no noticeable rattling in my max. I got two fosgate tens with 400 watts pushing them. however if u listen very very carefully u might hear some rattle...if your ear is like 3 inches from the trunk i wouldn't worry about it dude

How do you guys not have any rattle? I have 2 10" JL Audio 10W1's and my license plate rattles like crazy. But to help stop that I just went to Lowe's and bought some Peel n' Seal which workes great! But if you dont have the noise then more power to you, wish that was the case for me !

probably have yur bass turned up too high
personally, i like clean bass that thumps and not bangs everything about. I get a slight rattle now after i removed the padding of old clothes i had under my spare tyre which causes most of the rattling in my case. Oh and Btw, how many of y'all do have spare tyres? I've noticed quite a few people dont carry one at all. Are you that confident or what's the deal? I make long trips so having one seems sensible.

Hey guys, I got two 12" MTX Audio subs that are pushing about 250 watts each and underneath my car, there is some sort of metal that is rattling? It's some kind of metal protector right behind the gas tank? And my license plate did use to rattle, but, I just put some cardboard behind it and it stopped rattling? Another thing, my rear dash jumps up and down like a b*tch!!!

my rattling situation..

before my subs all was fine and quiet inside...then i got my setup: Kenwood 600w amp feeding 2 12" Infinity Reference series subs, sealed box firing to trunk. At high volumes & high bass repsonses the trunk lid does rattle...and the rear 6x9 speaker brackets rattle all the time; the subs rattled them loose

Throw the subs in first and listen to music as you would normally listen to it and if it rattles then go for insulation. Thats what i did, i put em in, and it rattles so over the winter im dynamatting/sound deadening the whole car. (also because of my desire to have less road noise along with stop the rattles)

i too have a spare...never know when ya need it *knock on wood*
plus even if i have my bass up all the way, there's very little rattling. I have no padding what-so-ever in my trunk. the only rattling is from my cd cases vibrating around in that holder thing on the door. but either way...our rattling can't be worse then a old caddy

Peel n Seal works and its alot cheaper than dynomat but do what you want (I think peel n seal is 40mil and dynomat is only 45mil..I think!) Also the base is not turned up that much at all. On my head unit its at -5 and at the amps its a little less than half way and the cross over is turned up to about half way. I just think that the rattle is inevitable and will happen if you like loud music! But im in the process of taking care of my rattle. Good Luck!

I got two Pioneer IMPP 12s, my trunk doesnt rattle at all; but, my rearview mirror makes more noise than anything in my car. That little rubber piece that holds it away from the windshield vibrates against the glass and creates the most god-awful noise. I stuck some putty behind it and that deadened it for a while, but its back. Anyone else have problems like this?

Yeah! I know exactly what you're talking about. I wedged a stack of dimes (5 or 6?) in between the bar and the roof. I swear it worked beautifully. I actually forgot I even did that until I read this

When i'm inside my car i hear things rattle until i turn it up to my normal listening volume then my highs hide them from my ears. From outside my car it sounds like people are stuck in my trunk, my roof flexes, and the grill in front shakes along with a few other things up there. But this is outside the car and i could care less what people think outside. I juts tell them that they are jealous cuz they cant hit 144+db AND you can hear all the music, not just the bottom end. After they sit inside they shut-up.

When I had my 94 max (which my sister has now) I put 1 12" in it, and the trunk didn't rattle, there was piece of metal on the bottom next to the gas tank that did rattle, I had no clue what it's sole purpose in life was, so I left it. On the same note, the front doors rattled a little bit, nothing some dynomat couldn't take care of... as for my sister having the car... she wants it out.. hehe, oh well..

everyone's saying their's have slight rattling to none. Mine rattles big time. Even dynamat doesn't help. the sound doesn't really sound like my trunk lid though. I think the rattiling is from the spare tire and something behind the rear bumper. btw i'm running 3 12" jl w3 12's......

when all of y'all play your systems loud, is it easy to hear from the outside (talking about the bass). B/c mine from the outside is ok, your can probably only hear it from about half a block but i have friends that can be heard from further with less bass, but when i'm inside everything looks like its about to break off, my mirrors shake, my rear deck and speakers seem like the shake and loosen up, and i could almost swear i saw my third brake light hit my rear windshield b/c i definitely see it shaking.

I have a 15" Rockford HE2 hooked up to an alpine 1507 bridged at 2 ohmes in a ported box. My head unit is an alpine with seperate sub control and 60 watts by 4 but I don't use the head unit amp I just use the pre outs. I have pioneer premiers 6/9's in the back and still have the original bose front speakers hooked up in the front but I had to buypass the on speaker amp to stop the poping noise every time I turned the car on.. I am eventually going to get some boston's for the front and install some tweeters right inside the door panel close to where the henges are.. It hits so hard I could'nt tell you where the rattleing comes from but I also have to do something about it. It starts to rattle when I turn the stereo up to about half the descibles i am usualy listening to. I will look into that dynopading and screwing down my license plate better.

i have had experience with dynamat and i barely hear the difference. It really doesn't keep everything from rattling. Because the parts of the car will still vibrate and make that rattle noise. If u read what dynamat says, it says that it helps keep outside noise out and your music in. It doesn't say that it will stop the rattling. Though it does make the where ever you put it more dense, the rattling will still be there.

hey you guys think i can get more output in a ported box? i have two fosgate he2 tens in a sealed box pushed by a fosgate 400.2 amp. don't get me wrong, it still pounds pretty hard. just wondering how much difference i will get from a ported box.

sealed boxes hit cleaner and tighter, but ported boxes will definetly make your music louder. the thing is, when your subs are pused hard, they cannot hit all the same frequencies as a sealed box. but if what you are looking for is loud than buy or make a ported box and if it is a good box, the results will probably leave you with a huge smile.....

will too big of a box hurt the sound? was planning to make a vent that will open into the cabin through the rear arm rest.

well if the box is too big then yes it will make a difference. almost every sub u buy will come with specifications on the type of box they work best with, plus it will most probably tell u the dimensions of the box they prefer you to have.

I also want to make a vent that goes through the rear arm rest but i'm not sure of how to do a clean job, b/c my friend's maxima did not look good with a huge whole in the trunk, so if anyone has done a clean job and has pictures can u please e-mail it to me?

Same here, mine rattled outside so loud you could hear the rattle from literally 15 blocks away with 2 pioneer 700w 10" subs in a home built sealed box driven by a 1200w legacy amp turned up 1/3 of the way..I padded the license plate, spare tire, tool bag, and jack and even took the little carpet padding off of the inside of the trunk lid and packed it with polyester fiberfill and added a layer of dynomat and the latch can still be heard rattling from 3 blocks away..there's slight rattling under the car as well, but thats not where the worst comes from..as for being able to hear the rattle inside..eh, well, you can on some songs..the rear 6.5" speaker brackets rattle pretty bad but thats an easy fix that I just haven't felt like toying with since you cant hear it over the 4 tweeters, 4x6s, and 8" subs I have in the passenger compartment in front of the 6.5" speakers...my system is a SQ setup that pushes 135dB easily(be skeery if I decided to turn it into a SPL car)..two of my tweeters are on the sail panels on the doors and the other 2 I'm probably going to have to remove for cosmetic reasons but they're mounted on the upper end of the front pillar..they're cheapos as are the 8" subs(which are sitting in custom home built boxes on the back floorboard until i find a better place for them)

anyone have any ideas as to how I can solve the latch rattle short of trying to tighten it(already tried once, spent 4 hours fixing what I fubared)? I'm pretty sure if I cover all of the panels of the trunk in dynomat and spray some sound deadener in the spare tire pan I can stop the rattle from under the car, but thats pretty far down on the priority list..have to replace 2 window regulators and get a capacitor for the 1200w amp and the 200w I have driving the 8" subs so my headlights stop flickering on big bass hits..would really like the latch rattle to go away though..

I would offer to take pics of my setup, but I dont have access to a digital camera (and my enclosures are ugly bare particleboard with white silicone showing at the seams, not much to look at anyway)

yep, a pair of 10s in the trunk and a pair of 8s in the passenger compartment..and I'm not exaggerating at all, its a small city so there are not that many tall buildings, especially where I'm referring to..there is 1 primary street that is really part of the highway that all of the major businesses are off of, and side streets off of it..well, I live on one of the side streets about 18 blocks in from the main road, and once I got about 2-5 blocks up the street, depending on which direction the wind was blowing, people outside my house could hear the trunk rattle, it was literally that loud..I got a $250 noise pollution fine because of it before I padded some of the lid, but the latch still rattles a lot...now I just get nasty glares from local cops, and a potential 2nd fine if I ever get stopped for anything else..hence the wanting to quiet the latch..

My trunk used to rattle a lot two 10" subs in a ported enclosure, 1250 watts. The only deadening I have done so far is on my trunk lid, it weighs like 100 pounds now. There are no audible rattles inside the car now, and outside you can hardly tell I have a stereo unless its at a very loud volume on a very bass filled track.

I made a pass through, when you pull down the armrest youcan get to the trunk. When i get an amp for my sub it should help. Also i mainly did this because now i can put hockey sticks in through my trunk.

My trunk rattles like crazy. So much that I am embarrased to put the music up. I have 1 Kappa Perfecr 12.1d pushed by an alpine mrd m300 600 watts. I pulled out the entire reflector at the back on the trunk and that seemed to be where the rattle was comeing from. I am going to peal and seal it as well ast the rest of the trunk. Hope this will help.
