well, i just got back from a 500 mile trip up to my grandparents house and i have come to a conclusion, i need new struts! the ride was horrible! i was getting sore from absorbing all the bumps in the roads. i'm going to be purchasing intrax springs and i was going to get tokicos, but i don't wanna have to pay that much for struts. do you guys think kyb's will do the job? i mean they should last for the rest of the time i own the car, right? i just wanna get new struts but not have to pay and arm and a leg for them. what do you guys think

Honestly?? Any shock/strut you use w/ springs that lower your car more than 1.5 inches will probably wear out real fast. Unless you go coilovers or go custom shortened shock tubes or the like.

Bad struts don't manifest themself by giving a harsh ride; they do so by giving a car poorly controlled body movements. If you have stock springs, wheels and standard tire pressure the ride is "floaty" with bad front struts. You may get seasick, but not sore.

Bucktown,
Your car looks pretty low. What set up do you have right now? Just curious. Thanks.

I paid around $68 for each of the front struts here in Brooklyn. I din't have to do the rears, but the cartridges are around $35 each. You also have to replace the rubber boots (~$12 each). Also if you have any clynk in the front end, I would also replace the top, strut mount, bearing.

Look Here I'm not sure what year your car is but you can switch the years. I got the KYBs for the front (haven't done rear struts yet) and it cost me $68 for each one plus I also replaced the upper insulators?, lower spring seats, strut boots & strut mounts. The ride is much better and my front end doesn't look like a 4X4 so much anymore since the struts have settled

Rear cartridges...

I know that my front struts need to be replaced very badly...('93 GXE with 113,000 miles, still original stock). Anyways, when it comes to the rear, how do I know if the cartridges need to be replaced? I know that it is a pain in the butt to do the rear, so I want to make sure they are bad as well before I have to rip them apart. Thanks!!!
