De- Chrome

I Did the search!!! No help!slant:
Someone did post something similer, but he liked his chrome.

I got a 93'GXE, but I hate all of that Chrome. Looks so "meh", between that and the pin-stripe, it looks like a real family car. I did see a couple of maxes on the site that it looked good on, but the "Chrome-Look" is not for me. Any Answers, suggetions??

you can either cover it up or replace the whole thing... but be warned.. replacing all that trim isn't easy, and costs about $200 PER WINDOW from the dealer.

Re: De- Chrome

all that chrome? theres barely any on the maxima. just around the windows and grill, i think it makes it look classy, and the MB's with the chrome trim around the door bumbers...beautiful, i dont think the problem is how much chrome is on a car, but where its placed, for example, those cars with the chrome around the doors and fenders, straight ghetto as hell. i do agree with you about the pin stripe though, took mine off right when i got the car.

I'm sure it could be sanded and painted.

most of the trim on the SE is actually the same stuff- just covered with a black tape/coating over the chrome parts. the differences are in the rubber trim below each window.. those are different and are the hardest ones to work with, since they're flexible.

Anyway, it's jsut not worth it, unless you can sand and paint it on the car and do a good job. many of the parts will be destroyed when you remove them, so even if you DO pull them off to paint, you can't get them back on.

Does anyone Know if it is Chrome all the way through. Or is it just a thin covering. If it is thin I would suppose that you could sand and paint. That would make life so easy!!

That's what I was thinking. It'd be pretty easy to sand and paint, but to do a good job you'd have to have everything off the car.

Don't know how good this would work, but in JC Whitney they sell black tape for the purpose of covering up chrome trim, its called Euro something, but you cover up the chrome for a lot cheaper than it would cost to paint or replace it. Anyone used this stuff?

all chrome is chrome plated, meaning it is dipped in a chrome solution, depending on how many times it was "dunked" determines the density or thickness of the chrome. i would just leave it alone

I would leave it alone, but its so "Family Like" or "Luxury" if you will. It's a stock Dark Green 93'GXE. I want to do anything to make it look maor sporty. And I think to De-Chrome it would be just fine. I will do my homework on that tape stuff.

Get an SE, they have all black trim, body-colored grills, and black mirrors if you something to look "major sporty".

GXEs were supposed to be the "luxury" version of the maxima. A clean GXE with some silver wheels and shiny chrome trim and grill looks awesome IMO
