Heat Shield picture

Does anyone have a picture of a custom heat shield on their cone style intake on a vg.. Im not sure exactly what needs to be shielded(if that makes sense).

i'm going to make one soon. i'm planning on putting my battery in the trunk and then putting the filter where the battery was and building a shield around it. i also have a hole around there where the batter is for a PM-CAI that ended up not working too well so i'll get a little bit of colder air doing this.

The best way to go is the Place Racing CAI. Heat shields are crap. If you are going for performance a CAI is the best bet. Heat shields only deflect some of the heat in the engine compartment. For complete info on a CAI over a sissy heat shield go to: http://www.custommaxima.com/PlaceRacingCAI.htm
They have the CAI for a good price too.

Who said any filter was better then CAI? I belive he was asking about heat sheild filters not CAI benifits. Thank you for the enlightenment NeWb

But i have seen it run about $120.00 plus shipping. While the Place Racing CAI gives better performance and is only about $200.00 plus shipping. Your cone filter didnt even come with a heat shield when you bought it?! If you are going to dress up your car you might as well save your money and get performance while you are at it. I might be a Newb to this website but i know what i am talking about.

There are options other than the JWT POP charger. Take, for instance the hybrid setups such as the 90-93 accord kit which fits just fine on the VG. You can get it off the internet for 26 bucks plus shipping which is a lot cheaper than 100-200 bucks. And since it replaces the upper intake tube just like the CAI, gains ARE noticed. So just because you think you know what you are talking about doesn't mean that there isn't other info out there that you may NOT know about. And as it has been stated in numerous other CAI threads, that the advantages of CAI over hybrid intake setups is controversial anyway. Since engines move more air in one or two seconds than what could be present in the area of an engine bay, CAI's may not even be using "cooler" air. After a second or two, a non CAI intake has ingested all the air in the engine bay and after that, air has to come from outside the engine bay. It is moving so fast, it doesn't have time to really heat up. So air temp in a CAI may not even be cooler than air temp in a non-CAI setup. This is just my physics-educated opinion. And others' too.

i agree, there are many options when it comes to intake. Take K&N for example. Just get their cone filters. Lot cheaper then JWT Pop charger. And yes the performance gains of a CAI and regular cone intake is controversial. Do a search. I believe someone actually calculated how much air is passed through the engine bay at moderate vehicle speeds. So it might not make a that big of a dif in a CAI and pop charger

Yes there are many options, and yes there is controversy over standard cones or a CAI . All I know is from all my research into this is that most CAI's give better performance than cones. Even if physics say that all the hot air is gone after a few seconds. Those few seconds count when you are sitting a traffic light getting ready to whoop up on a mustang.
