Using stock rotors with 300zx calipers

I was wondering if the stock rotors would work if they where machined down 3mm . The car at the junkyard where I got the calipers was missing the passenger side rotor. My stock rotors don't look to be much thinner that the 300zx. I did a search on the topic and everyone seemed to be using the 300zx calipers and rotors both.

Thanks

Matt had a huge post about when he put the 300zx rotors on his car, maybe you could check that out.

What year 300zx did you get the calipers from? I was told that the 94' - 96' Turbo 300zx calipers work good!

man you guys really need to research stuff yourself and hear it from unreliable sources.

here's the dilly on the calipers (300ZX Z32):
the lighter alum ones are from - 90-92TT models and 91-92NA models.
the heavier iron ones are from - 92 TT/NA +
when i say heavier..i mean heavier. your choice on which ones to get..but to reduce weight best to go with alum calipers.
the stock rotors will not work on 300ZX caliper. the width of the rotor itself is different on the 300ZX. the 300ZX rotor is A LOT wider than your stock maxima rotor. it MAY work at first but as the pads wear down i don't know how much more you have before the pistons starts popping out of the caliper.
DO NOT...i repeat DO NOT rig/make up/get cheap on brakes what so ever. that includes using incorrect hardware, rotors, pads. you will cause damage to your car or damage to someone else's property...or even death.
people hear things and believe what others say. go jam a 300ZX rotor and caliper on your max and see what problems you're going to run into....this does not include the offset of the rotor and offset position of the caliper..offset of your wheel/rims and need for spacers with the correct hub depth. also the need for custom brake lines to adapt to your maxima hard line to the caliper.
:end of vent:

been there, done that.. last year a guy tried to sue me because I told him how to bleed his brakes... HE forgot to refill his brake fluid reservoir (because I neglected to remind him of that simple fact), and when he got done bleeding, he immediately floored his car and slammed on the brakes at the end of the block. for obvious reasons, the car didn't stop, and he creamed a concrete wall at 60mph.

and he's griping at ME for being dumb... oh well. Darwin will win.. someday.

yeah, that sounds just as bad as the midas guys telling me they've seen some people put things such a coke in their brake fluid reservoir... there are some big idiots out there.

Actually, that'll get you running in a pinch. brake fluid is water soluble, and if you're out of fluid, anything water soluble with a high boiling point will do. I don't recommend it of course, but if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and out of brake fluid, you can put water in there and have brakes until you can get home and bleed the entire system out.

i dunno man...boiling point of water is quite low. rather slap in some coolant in there.
