my 3rd gen has a crazy-irratic idle in gear
alright, my 89 gxe is going insane. i've got an automatic gxe and when it idles in park or neutral, it idles just as it always has. but when it's in gear (reverse, drive, 1 or 2) the rpms will jump from under 300 to 1,000 causing the car to act like it's on hydros. not to mention, unless i keep the throttle open some when i change gears, it'll almost always die when going from either neutral or park to putting it in gear. has anyone had this problem? my mechanic already checked my idle air control valve and it was alright. he said it was carboned up a lot, which he cleaned out, but can't find anything else that would cause that. i figured it was a transmission problem since it only happens in gear. he didn't think it would be, but it's still doing the same thing and it's obviously not quite driveable right now so it needs fixed. anyone have any input or had experience with this kinda problem? also, i doubt it's related, but the tranny also has a bad 2nd gear. it hardly wants to shift into and out of that gear, so i thought that the tranny had another reason to be the culprit of this. thanks for the help and sorry for the wrong thread. i just want my 89 back running
