Stock Bose/Sony CD player
Stock Bose/Sony CD player
I've been on the hunt for a Sony CD player to replace my dead stock Sony CD player that came with the Bose system. I'm just looking for the same one -- not replacing the headunit or anything like that. I found one for sale that has "AV168" on the front of the unit and has a model # B8182-C9965. My current one says "AV138" and has a model # B8182-C9960. My question is, is there a difference in size or something internal that is different than my AV138? The AV168 is from the 300zx of the same time period and it looks exactly the same and has the same wiring off the back. Thanks to anyone who can help.

well i bought a used cd player off of a guy who had a 93 max. mine is a 92. his cd player did not work with mine. they switched the stereos and cd players from 89-92 to 93-94. i had to buy a bose from a 93 for it to be compatible. the bose stereos from 89-94 have a 5 prong female connection in the back that goes along with the sony 5 prong male connection. the bose stereos from 93-94 have a 8 prong female connection to go along with the different cd player. i am not sure if the cd player from 93-94 is sony or not. make sure you get one that is compatible with your stereo. or will be like me. i was all happy installing my cd player when i realized that it was not compatible. i waited like about 2 months until i found a 93 bose HU.
ive heard that people put 4th gen bose HU with a special adapter. it has been talked about before. do a search. good luck. i think that the 4th gen is the best idea. they are lot easier to come buy. someone is always selling one unlike the 3rd gens.
