It's a project car right now, so I'll just kinda post some pics of it, and detail what I'm doing to it for those who care.

First off, towed the car home today.

First thing was to remove the lawn tractor battery that some numbnut put in with a brand new Interstate Battery. Problem solved: Failure to crank/charge. - $50

Second, the car won't start. Hmm, familiar situation.... Unplug MAF. Problem solved: Failure to start. Junk Yard MAF - $50

Third, car hardly starts. Replace the 'autolite' standard plugs with NGK premium Platinums. Lucky for my dealer cost on these bad boys. Retail = 28.49 EACH! I paid $10 each. Problem Solved - Hard Starting. - $60

Finally, valves clatter. Hmm... Oil? Nope. 3 quarts later, oil barely shows on dipstick. Quick glance under the car reveals a nice black stain on the garage floor. Added more oil, had someone start the car and I found the oil dribbling out around the crankshaft.

Still working on the last one. Other than that, car runs like a top with the new plugs, and will run even better with a new MAF sensor.

I'm so ecstatic there's not a timing problem or blown head gasket.
Actually, the VTCs aren't even ticking. Maybe I got lucky, maybe they just didn't do it tonight.

That oil drip problem is your front main oil seal directly behind the crank pulley. It's $4 dealer part. Just remove the crank pulley, pry out the old nasty ring seal and slide in the new one. DONE! $4 DIY fix. You can handle this job yourself.

 

yup changing the seal is real simple it's just that an impact gun would help to make the job a lot easier. Aaron92SE, I like your sig....see 4th gens got nothing on us.

while your in there, you might as well throw on a UDP since the crank pulley has to come off anyway..i'm all about the "oh while its off, i might as well" mods.
also, this is a VERY DIY job, just remember to keep the drivers side wheel on, put the tranny into gear and lower the car so the drivers side wheel contacts the ground, that makes loosening/tightening the pulley ALOT easier since when i did it, the motor and tranny were turning with the wrench

 

well considering the car is 11 years old, it isnt really new now is it?

but its an auto i tried hard to find a 5sp for this car, i loved driving me dad's 5sp 4runner when i was learning to drive and ive driven a friends car with manual

but im cursed, every car in my price range that i was interested in was auto, a 626 ES, legend, even a 240sx and an mr2 i looked at were both auto...im definitely cursed.

Oh yeah I agree. Get a ASP Under Drive Pulley while your crank pulley is off. $110 for pulley and another $30 for all three new sized belts. And $4 for oil seal. And about a couple/few hours of labor.

 

 

if it's an SE, it should have a spoiler and sawtooth wheels. you'd also have a red grill, not a chrome one...unless of course, this isn't a pic of the new one! anywho, congrats on the purchase!

Whew! I was thinking the oil pan had to come off, and that sounded really uncool. Do I need to drain the oil out, or should it be ok? Bought the part today, I'll try it tonight.

 

you don't need to drain the oil.

 

Alright, well. Thanks to the ignorant parts department at the nissan dealer, my maiden voyage has been set back a day. They sent me a crank seal for the VG30 even though I specified the VE30. This was even the second delivery they made. The first time, they brought an oil filter rather than the crank. AND IT WASN'T EVEN THE RIGHT FILTER! It was for the VG30. So: I have returned it and they are supposed to deliver the new one today. This time I have the pulley with me to make sure its the right seal.

 

I hope everything goes well in reparing the VE project vehicle.

 

Okay, well I got f*cked again. After finally getting the correct seal and installing it, I thought I was going to be able to drive the car finally. NOPE. while testing various safety devices it came to my attention that the brake pedal went to the floor, and there was a mysterious puddle of brake fluid under the car. Turns out some jack*ss took some rubber hose and tried to repair the brake line to the front right. Unfortunately, they were too stupid to sand down the metal tubing and it punctured the hose, causing a nice spray of brake fluid to coat my engine. Good thing I ALWAYS check brakes before leaving. I would be dead or severely injured right now if I hadn't caught that.

Yay! I bought brake tubing and bent myself a brake line. Bled brakes and drove around the block a few times. Those VTC's are more irritating than a motherf*! Im not sure what the problem is, but the idle really sucks on this car and I don't know whether it's because something's clogged, it just hasn't run in months, the gas is bad, or the ECU is learning still because the battery has been dead forever. It'll idle fine for a few seconds and then drop by 2 - 400 RPM then recover, in an endless cycle. This was a real b*tch when I was trying to ease the thing out of the driveway and the idle kept dropping and stalling it.

Things I need still:
Insurance
Starter (or flywheel) Something grinds when the starter engages.
2 H3 Halogen Foglight bulbs.
Fresh oil change.
Rip the POS bose out because it doesn't work. (except it has the addon CD player and I don't have an extra tray to go under there)

 

that sucks about all of that stuff not working or working badly but glad to hear you are making progress.
