HUGE turning radius!

Why does the max have such a huge turning radius? I can barely have it turn around a culvasac without almost hitting a curb, with the wheel at the limit! Both a volovo stationwagon and ford taurus station wagon turn sharper then this! Is there anyway to improve it?

Buy a Volvo or a Tarus wagon.

I had a volvo wagon(hand-me-down)
the max has better performance, but I guess a "taurus" would be just as good... or rather better then any max, right? Thats what you mean?

the 3rd gen does have a wide turning radius. Its a trait that all front drive cars have, the maxima seems to have a tad bigger turning circle than the rest.

May be because the engine is in sideways. In this position you save space in the length of the front but loose in width. Just an idea.

Transversly mounted cars turn wide because of a couple of things. First it's front wheel drive, if you turned the wheel any further, you risk binding the CV Joints and drive axles. Second, because its transversely mounted there isn't as much clearance for the inner fender well. If you want a maxima that turns as tight as a Volvo, get an 81-84, they are rwd. Still there is one car the volvo or ford can't touch in turning radius for mid size sedan, and that would be a Mercedes....I know, I used to own one and holy **** they can they turn tight.
