Hmmm... replacing the BOSE speakers can be a pain. If you just replace the speakers, you may have some problems because the BOSE speakers & amps run on 1 ohm (someone correct me if i'm wrong). Your best bet is to run all new wiring to the new speakers and totally bypass the Bose wiring. I had the Bose system in my 90 SE and like 3 years ago my 6x9's went out so I replaced them with Pioneer 6x9's and it was good. It had no bass but the highs were clear. But then later on I upgrade my entire stereo system. It's also possible to fit 6 1/2 speakers in the fronts. There is enough room in the doors for you to fit them.

I didn't rewire my whole system, maybe i should have, but I just took out the bose speakers and put in pioneer 6x9's in the back and I have nothing hooked up in the front right now. Also dont bypass the amps and run a aftermarket HU because the 1ohm bose speakers will fry your HU.
