New Record!! 14.93 @ 92.61 for a NA VE Auto

I went to the Fayetteville Motorsports Park in Fayetteville, NC. Sunny, no wind, high of 60 degrees. Here are my times in order:

I let my car cool down to where I like it and ran a 14.94 @ 92.08mph.

Then, I was so excited and only had about an hour left. Since an hour wasn't enough time to let my car cool down to where I want it (hot today and no wind to cool my motor down), I went ahead and started hot lapping.

To my surprise, I ran a 14.99 @ 91.91mph.

Then I hot lapped and immediately ran a 14.95 @ 92.49mph.

Then I hot lapped again and ran my best of 14.93 @ 92.61mph. And the track was closed, so I couldn't get anymore runs in.

I can't believe that the VE performed so well while warm with a known bad KS.

My mods are:

Custom Intake
WSP Ypipe
ASP UDP
WSP Testpipe
Maximum Tuning Valve Body

Plus, a few free tricks.

Oh yeah, here is my full timeslip from my best run:

60' 2.3400
330' 6.3698
1/8 9.6696@74.83mph
1000' 12.5091
1/4 14.9374@92.61mph

This is the first naturally aspirated 3rd gen automatic EVER in the 14's. And they said it couldn't be done without major engine work.

Just adjusted my timing and tinkered with my cone filter. Little dash here and there. And great driver that knows his car.

Yes, I torque brake. When the first yellow bulb appears, I do a light torque brake, then when the 2nd bulb appears, I do a heavy torque brake, then launch on the 3rd yellow. It's one fluid motion so minimal heat is built up. Also, the level of torque brake changes from track to track and day to day. But, this particular track, I was able to launch very hard. The other local track is much more slippery. I have to do a very light torque brake just to get it off idle.

I have come to the conclusion that my VB helps about one tenth.

I really wish I had been there now. I'm mad that I had to work on Sunday or else I would have been there to see it for myself.

It's been a long quest to the 14's, glad you finally made it.

Aaron good time, what's next to make your run faster times. I am going run my car when I get my new clutch installed. I hope I can run just as good as you.

It'll be ok. After my little mod ideas, I am guessing that I can be in the 14.70's before next time. HOPEFULLY! Remember, I'm an auto and it'll be REALLY hard for me to get 14.60's. Don't worry.

Actually I have a Dyno sheet that show two consecutive runs, one with the VTCs grounded, and then one ungrounded. The Run with them Grounded:

168hp max
189Tq max

Ungrounded:

180hp max
189tq max

The loss was all top end, and you can see a good bit of top end is lost when they are grounded.

Now whether grounding provides the same effect as when they are simply going bad/are bad, that I do not know. But after that run I kept them ungrounded for about a year until about a month ago when the noise was too much to bear any longer.

Fortunately I have a nearly new set of VTCs in the garage, I just need to get them out of that engine and into mine...

It isnt your VG that is winning for you...come to SoCal and I will give you a piece of a N/A VE 5 speed.

Bring it FOO! I will race you any day, any time, any where, with any method of forced induction you may have. I said I would race you... but I didn't say I would win. Hey... I have a REALLY good idea. Go back to your 75 shot that you ran that 14.50 with and I will race you straight up. Not no ET mess... I am talking about the person that crosses the finish line first. I have tree skills yo.

I have more tricks up my sleeve... still NA. Tomorrow, I am paying ANOTHER visit to HD. I'm telling you... if you spray your 75 shot, I might give you a run for your money. I will keep in touch.

BTW, I hope you are enjoying your new Maximum Tuning valve body on a VG baby!! I'm glad you got it done. Drivability is MUCH better, isn't it?

Aaron did do some weight reduction for the 14's last time at the track. And today he was saying something about doing some more intake work. I hope the times just keep going lower and lower for him.

When I take my jetta to the track I take out pass seat, back seat, spare, jack, trunk insulation and carpet.

I think some drag radials would really bring down that 60 ft time also

I lowered my ET by .5 seconds in my 95 Civic with Drag Radials and a cam/ECU install. I would attribute about .25 seconds loss to the drag radials.

I got 205/60/14 mounted on steel rims (pretty heavy ) for $200 shipped.

Just make sure you have the clutch to handle the new traction!

I have an automagic.

Block, I already have the weight reduction you specified. And drag radials will not help my time right now since I am having absolutely no traction problems. I launch it as hard as I possibly can, and I hear a chirp and I'm gone. They do a great job of keeping the track flawless. But one day, drag radials may be necessary, especially for changing my ratios in order to get me revving higher in 3rd through the traps.
