mod and style ideas from the cefiro

some good ideas for your maxima, particularly the 3rd gen, can be found at www.cefiroclub.com

in particular are paint color v. wheel color/style schemes as well as some just awesome nuances for the exterior and otherwise. great for pondering possibilities. the site has strange fonts on it, but just start clicking away.

Try this site for some good pics

http://www.meggala.com/1cefiro/cefiropage.html

And just one question....why the hell do the japanese save all the rwd platforms for themselves!?

cefiro dialogue

to snickterP

thanks for the site and reply. i dunno why the japanese versions are nearly always hotter. i don't get it, either. we can only mod and admire. i believe the cefiros have the rb20det engines with AWD. that is so unfair. it doesn't make any sense to me. perhaps not enough of the market in the u.s.a. would respond to that offering.

also, i have not forgotten about the pics of my skyline wheels on the 3rd gen. patience. when the time is right, i will make that a new thread.

most of their cefiros are rb20de, rwd. i havent heard of an AWD one, however there are a few that have the rb20det motor.

explained

welcome. the cefiro is the japan-only, RWD, beefier, racier, version of the maxima. it is quite cool. www.meggala.com/1cefiro/cefiropage.html

the I30 is very cefiro-like. i am learning about those( the I30's) as well as the Cefiros. i have known about the cefiro for years, but have only recently been sort of "re-interested" in them. probably because i am into doing mods now.

i think there might be some manual cefiros round, they're rare like the turbo though..
Japan would have most of them.

A modded cefiro looks the business :]

over here the cefiro and maxima were 2 seperate cars till the 4th gen maxima came out, then the cefiro badge was put on that...

where are you, then? i am fast becoming a fan of the cefiro. i like particularly the 'equivalent" of the 3rd gen maxima. it is slightly different, a hair leaner looking and sleaker, yet nearly the same. can you get any cefiro keepsakes like manuals or dealer literature? it is one of the best looking sport sedans i have yet seen, even against the newer models of other brands. it sort of parallels the skyline. sort of.

Here's the specs for the A31 Cefiro:

Rb20e RWD (A31)
Rb20e RWD, 4WS (CA31)
Rb20de & Rb20det RWD (A31)
Rb20de & Rb20det RWD, 4WS (CA31)
Rb20det AWD/Attessa (NA31)
Rb25de RWD (EA31)
Rb25de RWD, 4WS (ECA31)

I could have sworn there were 1 or 2 more uncommon engines in the A31's. As far as manual, I believe 5spd was available but extremely hard to find. Also, I believe the A31 Cefiro is built on a similar platform/chassis to the '89-'96 Q45.

It's all about economics. a FWD configuration is cheaper to make but, they know we will still buy so why not save money. What ****es me off is the 1st gen Datsun Maxima WAS RWD! They already had the basic drivetrain layout and could have stayed with it while upgrading/modernizing it through the following gen Maximas. Though, they decided to save a few pennies and FWD is what we are forced to live with.

One car to remember is the Infiniti M30. That is the closest thing to a RWD 3rd gen Maxima (2 door Maxima anyways) and uses the Vg30e as well. It's called the Leopard in Japan. Guess what those lucky Japanese guy's had an engine option of (although very rare)? The 255hp, 255lb torque Vg30det! Eventually I want an M30 just to do that engine swap.

engine bay compatibility

thanks for the info.

so are you saying that, from the M30 Infiniti, the VG30DET will mount into the 3rd gen Maxima (the "D" meaning "double overhead cam")?

the M30 doesn't have the VG30DET it uses the VG30E(same as 84-89 non-turbo Z)

and no one has put a DET into the Max yet due to fitment issues, etc. its a pretty big motor.

76 datsun 280z. it looks sweet. i can't wait until he finishes it. he talked to jwt about some stuff he can get for it and will probably be pushing 400-500 hp when he's done. that with a ~2800 # car and rwd should fly!

also, while it's out i'm going to see how well it fits in the max. i actually looks like it might fit. it's A LOT smaller with the single turbo setup.

oh. i was confused. thank you for clearing this up. i have read on these forums of people putting in a VG30ET into a 3rd gen, reusing the maxima's intake manifolds and heads. is there a homegrown step-by-step of this procedure online anywhere?
