Coilovers

Does any one know if they make coilovers for the third gen maxima, because all I find is for the fourth gen, if so where can I find them?

Who makes them? Are you talking about the Stanza ground control coilovers?

what would be your preferences of coil overs vs. lowering springs?

Let's be honest

There's a very small percentage of 3rd gen owners (on this board anyway) who will be willing to buy coil-o due to their high dollar cost. As someone stated, when you compare the cost for coil-o and drop springs most of our wallets say drop springs. Also, many aftermarket venders don't consider "our" older cars to be a good candidate to invest their time into developing new products, that's why you will hear the word custom being used a lot with our cars. Sure there might be companies out there who can make coil-o for us, but once again it will be custom made.

here's a question for ya, since it goes along the line of having to be custom made...

Just how much would you be willing to pay IF someone did make coilovers?

As Mike already said, it's going to be a custom job, so any that are done will be a per-car basis.. that's NOT going to be cheap. for those hardcore enough to really want them and actually use them for what they're intended, you're going to have to fork out probably a grand, minimum.

"Yeah, and my friend who works at another friend garage who told his friend about that guy................" Just freaking with you. Anyway I know your in S. Fla Miami area so you gotta try thos Altima springs so I can see. I would assume the spring rate between the Max and Alti would be different due to different curb weight. And yes I'm in WPB (Wellington)

altima springs on a maxima can be done easily, the whole front altima supension bolts right up. BUT the altima front suspension is lower than the maximas, STOCK. Which is why altima lowering springs would lower a maxima up to 2-3 inches when it would only lower an altima about 1.5 inches. spring rate is probably lower. Lower spring rate, plus alot lower drop, equals an unstreetable maxima.

When people on here say 'Coilovers' are you refering to the type that the honduh guys get that are just an adjustable sleeve with a spring on it? I've seen so many of those sleeves break that i'd be scaird to put them on anything i drove. Technically speaking the type of suspension that we have already is classified as a Coil-Over shock setup except ours is in the form of struts. The only type that i've seen that are good are the ones that have the 'sleeve' welded to the shocks/struts and the springs and dampeners are designed to work together as a matched set. These types I know start at $1500 and i've installed one a VW Corrado. The way that car handles now was worth every penny spent to the owner.

heh...thats the whole deal here...some want GC style $300 coilovers, which is fine...but on the other hand some people want the $1500 32-way, etc. etc. adjustable kind(like Tein(?) for example)...thats another prob, there are too types of coil overs on the market, the quality race kind with all the trimmings and quality and then theres the more common "I just want a slammed car"(ie- Ground Control or some knock-off brand) kind

I would be looking for something like the Tein's, Hell if you just want to drop, you might as well just cut the springs and let natural selection take over. I'm willing to drop up to $2200 for GOOD coilovers, but that would be it, more than that is out of my budget! And Matt is sounds like you know something! Spill the beans!!!
