cold weather and tranny

can sub 30 degree weather cause sluggish shifts on an automatic? it was around 27 this morning when i got up for school and it didn't want to shift into 4th gear on the freeway. i checked the fluid level and it's fine. but this was the first time it happened. after this morning cold it shifts fines. hope this doesn't mean my tranny is gonna give out soon...

My 2nd Gen had to get warm (1/3 of the gauge)be fore it would go into 4th gear. My third gen has not given the same problem. My 2nd gen head temp sensor went bad, I replaced it and have not had any complaints from the kids about shifting?

your fine, your fine.

Many automatics will not shift into overdrive(4th gear) when its cold. It helps speed up warming the internals to normal operating temps. The sluggishness is probably a result of having the cold tranny, you might let your car warm up for 10min or so before leaving.

I've noticed my max runs cooler than any car ive every dealth with, i can take a trip, get in and touch the valve cover's(like where it says Nissan 3000 or whatever in red, mines mostly worn off though) and only be luke warm. Kinda weird, my previous camry would have scalded you pretty bad if you even touched the inside of the engine bay...*shudders* hated that car.
