headlight delay

I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find any kind of discussion about this. You know how most newer cars have a headlight delay when you leave the car, and the lights turn off automatically? I want to be able to hook up my 91 5-spd. to do the same thing. Like, i leave the car with the lights on and after a minute or so they shut off. Let me know if they sell some kinda kit on eBay, or if i can wire one up using say, some relays and a RC circuit.

I remember people selling the kits so I know they make them. I also remember when I was in tech. school and we had to do a project (like in the 1st semester) we could make one of these kits.

Good luck I know I am not much help other than to say that I have seen what your talking about.

A dollar to anyone who can find an answer to this, I'm tired of killing my battery cause I leave my lights on. The little warning chime isn't worth sheit. Can never seem to hear it...

Heh, I've left my headlights on (and drained the battery) three times already since I got my car! I didn't do that with my old car. There seem to be NO warning chimes for headlighs on in my car. Maybe it's broken. Or maybe it's because I have heavy duty headlights harness on mine? Anyway, SE's especially bad at this because the gauges are white, so it's hardly noticeable if you have the lights on during daytime as bright green illumination on white background isn't visible. So you have little clue about whether your headlights are on or off. If they would just turn off when you turn the engine off...

Well you could always wire up the lights so that they're always on when the engine is on. Hook a wire up to the ignition wire (white/green). Run the wire to headlight switch (red/yellow). That way the lights come on when the lights come on. I would suggest putting a diode on that jumper wire though, because the car might think the ignition is on if you manually turn on the headlights. This isn't exactly what im looking for though, because them to not be on constantly with the engine, but delay shut off after the engine is killed even if the headlight switch is still flicked on.
