I lost part of my caliper today
I recently noticed a sound coming from the right rear wheel well when I would hit bumps in the bad rouds around campus. Today I finally had some free time to investigate the noise. When I pulled the wheel off everything looked normal. Then I began to inspect the brake caliper and to my shock the two bolts that hold the caliper pieces together were gone
So the noise I was hearing was the caliper assembly bouncing around. The brake pad on the inside of the rotor was doing it's job, but the pad on the outside of the rotor wasn't making contact, and I had a rust mark on the rotor where the pad hadn't made contact since it rained and snowed last. I'm just glad I didn't lose a brake pad or even worse, have the whole assembly come off during driving.

you should check out the junkyards where you pull parts yourself, I found the caliper sliding pin for my car on a couple other older Nissans when I went

Re: I lost part of my caliper today
I had oen of my bolts coem off befor and it threw one of my brake pads off and the caliper piston started digging into my rotor. luckily I wasnt far from my friends house so I just took it there and fixed it the next day.

been there, done that. one of my front calipers came apart like that.. but only the "rear" bolt came off, so the caliper flipped up and scraped on the inside of my wheel. but a nice deep scratch in the metal.
fortunately, I had a spare bolt that fit in my tool box. I stuck it in long enough to order those bolts from courtesy. they were like $3 each.

hmm failing brakes is not a good thing, atleast there havent been any accidents because of it.
