Where is the knock sensor on VE motor??

It's right in the middle of the "V" on the V6. What I mean is, it's right under the LOWER intake manifold. So you have to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds to get to it. Big pain in the ***. The Nissan FSM should detail how to check this item. But it should also have some other checks you can perform to make sure it's the knock sensor. ie.. making sure the connection to the harness is good. I would definately check that first before ripping the manifolds off.
You can't see it in my engine pic but it should be right under tube running across the block. And left to right wise, right under the middle intake port.

when the ECU reads a code...like mine did "34" and it means it has something to do with the knock sensor....does that mean the knock sensor itself is most likely bad, or does it throw a code 34 (knock sensor) to tell you it somethig to do with knocking, i.e when you got out and started complaining

It might be the harness like I mentioned in the last part of my post. What does that last part of your post mean?
Fry110: I had take the head off to get some broken studs fixed.

What made you do the self diagnostic
My be a simple answer, but did you do it because a check eng light was on or not. Sometimes I think I should do a self diagnostic even though my check engine light is not on. Could this dianostic feature find any hidden problems?

The check engine light was not on...but I was just curious to see if it would read any codes, I have been told that there can be stored codes even if the light is not on, Also if you do the ECU test, make sure the screw is exactly in the same position it was in before you turned it, mine was slightly off and it caused the car to idle at 1000 rpm, It was like this for a couple weeks, so I did another ECU check, and then noticed the idle was normal again....it was the turn of the screw that was causing an idle problem..also do the ECU check a couple times in a row, even tho it reads a 34, 1 minute later it could just as easily read a 55 which is a all clear code....not sure whats up with that,....just how it works i guess
