A/C control lights...

I searched and couldnt find anything related. I just recently got a new clock and it is nice to have something there again. Now I just want my A/C controls to light up, only the 1234 and cold-hot controls light up, but the buttons dont. Anyone ever fixed this before? I am sure it is a common problem. I would really like to get them working, so I have a fully lit dash again.

Thanks!

One of the bulbs is out. To get to them you have to take the control unit out and get access to them from the top. You can get the bulbs from radio shack cant remember the part # though. I know its on here somewhere.

I actually have it on the table in front of me, but cant figure out how to get into it. There is a rusty screw up top, I took that out, then you look at the bottom there is 2 screws I took them out and cant get it apart, I dont want to break anything, is there a certain way to get it apart?

you dont have to get it apart. There is a little flap that you flip up and you will see the 2 little twist things for the bulbs.

haha, that is too easy then, I pulled that flap up and saw them, but didnt want to mess with it, cause I thought it adjusted something. Thanks for all your help, time to pull them out and take them to radio shack and get the replacement.

radio shack part number

I believe the radio shack part # is 272-1095

I just did this job 4 days ago

Just get some tweezers and you'll be go to putting the bulb in the little holder, or you can go the dealer and buy the whole thing for an outrageous price.

The bulbs from radio shack should be $1.49+tax and it should come with two of them.

Hope that helps.

if it's the same bulbs as used for the rest of the dash switches, its 272-1092 which do come in a 2pack for $1.49 "12v minilamps"

those bulbs are white, it's a green film built into the button itself

I believe awsm66 took his apart and scraped off the film and then colored it blue. I'm not real sure though so you'll have to search for details about it

the lights that light up when you push the button are rectangle leds. The sliders are the same thing (rectangle leds) but they can be pulled out easily to change the color. the push button leds are soldered onto the board though.

yes the color can be changed on the main buttons but you have to scrape off the backside of it and either paint it with a marker or leave it clear (after scraping the green off) and put an led in place of the bulbs.

what should be lit up at night:
power/comfort switch (one for switch, one for P, one for C)
ring around cig lighter
light inside ash tray
climate control (light above each button when pressed and light above and below the lever on left side)
emergency blinker switch
defrost switch (one for switch, one for orange 'on' indicator)
dimmer switch
cruise switch (one for switch, one for green 'on' indicator)
fog switch

there may be one or two more around but if you are wondering, just pop open the switch and look inside

just to add,
heated mirror switch, when turned on that's all I can think off.

Do you have the automatic climate control unit or the manual? I would really love to see pictures of this. I've been trying to do the same for my manual unit (with the sliding leveers) but havent' been successful yet.

If you've got the digital CC read up here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....limate+control
from my experience, try the following:
1) resolder contacts on both circuit boards
2) focus specifically on the data cable connecting the 2 boards
3) try replacing capacitors
4) if it doesn't work live with it like I did , and give it a good smack on occasion, when you thinking about how much time you've wasted on it ...
