Question Regarding the Fuel Injector Color Dot and its Location

I'm gathering part numbers to order some fuel injectors and noticed the following:

In removing the wire harness off the fuel injectors, I do not see a blue or black dot anywhere on the harness connector part of the injector as others have described would indicate what type of injector is present.

However, I did notice a blue dot on one of the fuel injector harnesses where it connected underneath the intake manifold as linked in this pic:

I'm curious as to whether this dot indicates anything or is it just a red herring?

The dots on 93 and 94 GXE models will be green or yellow dots. Most likely they have a pink body, which you can see when you take an injector harness off one of the injectors. You can ONLY use injectors made for a 93 or 94 Maxima.


Most everything parts-wise changed on the '92 models but the fuel injectors did not change until the 93 model year. Maximas made with a production date of 07/92 and later have green or yellow dot. Maximas made before have either the black or blue dot.

The location of the fuel injector dot is not in a place that you can easily see it without physically removing the injector. Kaleb's advice is to simply buy 6 of the same dot color injectors: black or blue dot for 89 to pre 07/92 Maximas, green (preferred) or yellow dot on 08/92 to 94 Maximas:

Kaleb's advice regarding purchasing re-built injectors from places such as www.directauto.com:

Well rebuilt becomes more appealing as the car ages, I know, but if you spend $40 on an elaborate solenoid like an injector and you realize that includes parts and labor on whatever they did and I just don't think they can do a job on those that will be as reliable as stock injectors. You get what you pay for, I believe. Your #5 rebuilt injector goes bad in 6 months then you have to do the labor AGAIN and then again or whatever. There is a chance with any injector, even new Nissan, but I think we'll all agree the chance of a bad injector is more with aftermarket rebuilds.
