Question on changing the gauge bulbs???
Question on changing the gauge bulbs???
I know some people have tried it. I was just wondering how many bulbs I will need for it? Also I think the bulb size is 194, if this is wrong please correct me? Thanks for your help.

I never really figured the difference between 168 and 194...I doubt there are any major differences to complicate this install! most sites list them with a "/" in between (ie- 194/168 bulbs). I know for sure I put 194s in my gauge lights last year though.

aren't they 168? I'm always confused by this. I was thinking of getting some 194Superwhite PIAA LED's, but I'm not sure if the LED's are bigger than a regular 194 bulbs?

However, I do not recommend LEDs in the instrument cluster. I tried the exact LED you are talking about (PIAA), and while the color was terrific, the light dispersion was poor. I think it has to do with the inherint directional light that the LEDs put out, while a filament bulb will spread out in all directions better. I have some polarg bulbs on order, and I expect them to be much better. They are pictured here in a 240sx cluster:

Hope that helps

Re: Question on changing the gauge bulbs???
yes there 194 bulbs back there. but the problem is that the back of the guages has a green covering over the back of it if you have a gxe. the only way to get it off is to sand it off. i dont know if the led will work right but the blue lights will eventually fade. it was a good idea i thought at first also but it ended up just being a pain just buy the reverse indilow guages from south west auto works for 55 dollars you will be much happier. trust me. just my 2 cents
ngthing did it.
