abs sensor.....

well let me see what you think? i put on a new strut on passenger rear, and in doing so the abs light came on.... So I checked the code and it pointed to that sensor. I removed it and its kinda just fallin apart....

Now a new one is 100 bucks... Worth replacing?

Also I was thinking, I think the computer only checks for continuity in the sensor (trasmit electricty) do you think that i could just connect the two wires together and would be ok with 3 wheel abs??

see what ya think

I've bought 2 front wheel sensors from a local junkyard for $15 each. You should probably be able to find some if you call around.

The sensor is supposed to have a resistance of .8k-1.2kOhms. I measured my "new" one and it was 1.023kOhm. I dont think your ABS will be very effective if you bypassed one of the sensors but if you really insist on it, you might be able to do it with a resistor. The ABS sensor harness for the front wheel sensors are just behind the strut tower in the engine bay. There is a 2 wire harness that has a plastic clip holding it to the backside of the strut tower. If you want to put the resistor in place, just put it across the female end of this connector, but like I said before, I would not recommend this.

As for removing the ABS sensor, it's not too bad. On the cars at the junkyard, there was a small phillips head screw going into the top of it but my 93SE didn't have this piece so I dont know if yours will or not. Then the sensor has 3 12mm bolts. The one towards the inside of the car doesn't seem to do anything at all - it just goes in the sensor but doesn't connect to anything else so I didn't bother removing it. The bolt furthest to the outside of the car is a little hard to get to. I cut a small notch out of the metal shielding behind the rotor. That way I could get a socket and extension in there to remove that bolt. The last bolt is directly behind the ABS sensor wires so I used a 12mm open end wrench. I had to keep flipping the wrench over because I couldn't turn the bolt very much and the angle is tough, but it will come out eventually. It may help to remove the 10mm bolts/screws that hold it to the strut first. That'll give you a little more slack on the wires and you can unscrew that 12mm bolt by hand. Then you just have 2 more 10mm bolts/screws holding the wires inside the wheel well. Once those are removed, you can pinch the grommet with your fingers (or push at the edges with a flathead screwdriver). Then pull the sensor's harness out through that hole.
