Temp sensor gauge

Ok I know this has been explained many times on this forum. I have disconnected the temp gauge sensor(the one with the yellow square) because the fans were not turning on at all. I have traveled for as long as 2 hrs from Atlanta to the North Georgia Mtns and they never came on. Although it was cold during this travel time I thought they would turn on. This past summer I replaced the thermostat because it was sealed closed. Ok so that worked as far as letting the radiator fluid flow better but the fan still did not turn on.

Will it hurt if I continue to keep the sensor disconnected???? It has been like this for about a month!!

It might not be all that good for the fan motors. I had my temp switch go out on a trip and I overheated while stuck in an Ice storm on 84 East in Penn. I had my brother email the forum to get the tip you got of unpluging the sensor. I stopped at the first exit, found the first autoparts store, Advanced, and got a sensor for under $20.
I'd just get a new one if I were you and forget about it. Mine still didnt come on for a long time but it was really cold. After I finished my trip and got to TN I drove around town and let it idle in the driveway, 2 min later I heard them kick on. So they probably wont turn on too often when its cold and the car is moving.

Good luck.

Thanks 89sks I will probably go to advanced auto parts in the morning because I have to go to work at noon. It is spring break for me and Im not going anywhere for the first time. So I will have plenty of time to do it.

Got the sensor today at Advanced Auto Parts for just under $19. I installed tonight was not that hard although the anti-freeze started to come out so I had to be quick. But the fans still have not turned on after I went for a good drive but it is 47 degrees here in the subs of Atlanta. Ill just have to watch it over the next couple of days.

Drive around and get it up to operating temp, then let it idle in the driveway etc. so it can warm up with no air flowing through the front like when your driving. Thats what I had to do, cause it never got hot enough to kick them on while driving because I was getting enough cool air across the radiator when the car was moving. Does that make sense? Good luck.
