Temperature control unit

Can someone help me ?

I have an 93maxima GXE 5speed.

My unit for temperature control(digital) seems to be messed up.
The other day I was driving threw town with a friend and he went to bring my fan from low to medium and we just hear a click. The fan shut down. Now all I can use is High or nothing at all.

Also seems that at some times my lights in that unit are working fine and some times they are dimmer and other times not working at all.
The same goes for my little in dash clock. sometimes you can see it sometimes you can't.

Can anyone give me any insite as to what is wrong before I go see a mechanic and he tells me a load of bull****. Like the last one tried.

Seems every time I go to the garage , he tells me something then I go online ask some guys and it's a easy quick fix that I can do myself.

Someone please help me !

actually its a common problem with the digital climate control and the clocks.

first things first...the reason your fan is running on high only is because you blew the resistor that sets the fan speeds. its $74.00 at the nissan dealership here....ask at www.courtesyparts.com they may have a dicsount.

as for the display dimming on you....you'll have to take out the clock and the climate control and take them apart. its just simple resoldering some of the joints on the climate control module circuit board and ALL the joints on the clock circuit board. that should take care of it. good luck

Would you happen to know what the code is for the resistor ? If so, given that im in canada I might be able to get it somewhere around here without having to go to the dealership. They really enjoy screwing us on pricing around here.

1 more year and ill be in miami with my dad. No more canadian winters for this kid. No more salt on my car ither.

i dont have the code/part number anymore...i bought mine like a year ago....sorry.
If this helps...the resistor for the non digital climate control unit costs only like 15-16 bucks here...give courtesy nissan a call and see what they gotta say...they usually price fairly...and would also give u an internet discount for being an org member. Ask for Kaleb over there.

good luck.

It isn't a resistor ... it's called a fan control amplifier ... basically a heavy duty darlington dropping transistor connected to a heat sink. I have one if you are interested and I live in Canada too.
