Driver's Side Rear Window Problem

Well to make a long story short I had guy come and take a look at my 91 SE that I'm trying to sell (I got a 2k3 SE) and so they took it for a test drive and when they got back they said that some of the windows wouldn't go up. Well I got 3 of the 4 to go up. However, the driver's side rear window won't go up completely. So I took the door panel off and took a look. Everything looked fine but when I touched the motor it was extremely hot. So, I'm guessing that the motor is burnt up since I can't hear anything from the motor.

A few questions: 1) Has anyone replace their's personally? 2) If so, how difficult is it on a scale of 1 to 5? 3) Should the motor and the regulator be replaced or just the motor?

Any inside info and tips would be appreciated.

Re: Driver's Side Rear Window Problem

doesnt take a surgeon to swap out either motor or regulator. call courtesyparts, ask for Kaleb, order motor if regulator cable looks good and in-line, wait for order and when it comes in swap within 30mins and you're good to go.

Yeah... what lophix said:

1) Has anyone replace their's personally? yeah, I've replaced mine before

2) If so, how difficult is it on a scale of 1 to 5? with 5 being the most difficult, I'd say it was a 1. Maybe if you're on crack, then it's a 2. It really isn't that hard at all. If you have ANY kind of mechanical experience (in other words, if you can turn a screwdriver), this will be a cakewalk!

3) Should the motor and the regulator be replaced or just the motor? you might only have to change the regulator. I highly doubt you have to change the motor.

Should I buy something like this off of ebay?
http://search.ebaymotors.com/search/...aytag1=ebayreg

I called Courtesy Nissan and the motor alone was $197 and i believe the regulator was $59. Also called around to some salvage yards and the best price i found was $100 for both. Any suggestions?

hmm didnt know the motors were that expensive. Before doling out the cash, open up the door panel and examine the regulator. if the cable is in place and looks fine, test it out while watching it. If it turns at all, then the motor should be fine. If nothing, check the switch to make sure it's okay. If the motor is bad, then you can either get the motor from courtesy or the motor-regulator set combo on ebay for $44. Make sure you get a warranty on it for at least 90days if thats possible. Else, go to a junkyard and dont pay more than 40bucks for a motor alone since the chances that it's messed up are pretty high.

removing the door panel is harder than repacing the regulator and motor.
