tranny help (92SE 5speed)

my tranny is making some horrid noises, so i'm wondering if i should get it rebuilt, or if i should just get a new one? i can get the old one out and bring it to get rebuilt, and i can also install a new one so that saves a ton on labor costs. which would be better? i need this to be as cheap as possible while still being reliable as eventually (summertime) i hope to be putting down alot more power than stock (not sure how much, depends on how my funding goes).

i had a problem with my 5spd about 4 months ago the trany got locked in 2nd and i took it out and put it in and had a friend help with internal fix but i priced the rebiult with it in the car and out of the car and i would have saved about 600$ if i had taken it out myself and had a shop repair the trany the shop was only going to charge me 800 to rebiuld instead of 1400$ so you could save yourself alot of money by doing that and if your going to be putting more stress on it you should consider getting it croyo treated although i have not priced that yet

well i'd definatly be pulling/installing it...
so rebuild with cryo treating would be the best way to go? would replacing the gears with longer ones be cost effective or should i just deal with the traction issues with my new found power?

i dont think they make differnt size gears for our cars but going to alittle taller final drive gear mabey 3.55 or 3.23 would help alittle i believe stock is 3.80 but i think it would be custom and alot of money that would make 1st hold to like 40 or 45 but just a guess
