How to flush radiator?
hello everyone
i was just wondering if anyone could provide me with an extensive write up on how to flush and reverse flush the rad. on a 1990 gxe.
i saw the basics by searching on the web but i always check in with the org before i do anything myself to my car.
it doesn't seem tough or anything but muprhy's law (anything bad that can possibly go wrong, will go wrong) seems to follow me around whenever i do something so i just want to be clear on what i have to do.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Your manual gives the basics. To drain the radiator, wait until the engine is completely cool and remove the radiator cap and the drain plug. The drain plug is located at the bottom of the radiator. You may have to remove the splash guard below the radiator since it may be in the way of getting to the drain plug. I just used a pair of vice grips/pliars to loosen the plug, and then had a catch pan waiting below to catch the fluid draining.
Next, you would drain the block. I have a VE and the drain plug for the block was located on the block where the oil check dipstick ends. There is also an air release valve for the engine block that is located near the intake (the nissan manual or Hayne's manual gives a better description and illustration). Basically, the air release just seemed to make the coolant drain quicker.
Check your manual to see how much coolant/water the VG takes. I used a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. With the VE I put 1 gallon of coolant and 1 gallon of water into the radiator, and filled the resevoir. Ran the engine for a few minutes and then filled the resevoir back up to the full mark.
Sorry if that was long winded, but I hope that gives you a better idea.
