no one knows the answer

My 1990 max is having strange problems and the dealership ripped me off.The car will run perfectly for awhile for maybe even 20 min and then when you stop it may start acting up like it is starving for fuel.it will even backfire and sputter but you can punch it and it will run fine for maybe 5 miles and for a strange reason i shut off the engine while still moving and restarted the motor and it ran fine for 3 or 4 miles. You can turn the engine off and restart and it fixes the problem for maybe 5 min up to 20 min. One guy told me that fuel pumps will do this when they start to go out.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it could be your fuel pump going bad when was the last time you had the timing belt done because that was probably the last time you had a new fuel pump put in because they are usually recommended at the same time. Might be your throttle sensor because I had mine adjusted today and the car runs a lot better than it did even before I brought it to the mechanic because my car kind of had the same thing happen but I had went though some water a big no-no.

Another thing to check is the fuel filter, too. But then again, WTF do I know? LOL

...oh, and BTW, welcome to the .org!

Yes fuel pump (probably the filter on the pump), the regular fuel pump, and you might as well replace the relay for the fuel pump located in the truck.
