!! Help !! Fun sound ain't so fun!
Heys friends...I am having some good ole problems with my '94 max auto gxe. I am short of time and cash but this is just driving me crazy! A high pitch rubbing/grinding sound in the rear wheels of my car is occuring when:
1) Anytime (almost) I push on the brakes.
2) Whenever I turn the wheel to the right or left. More often wehn I go left.
3) When I go in reverse. In reverse it is also about three times as loud as when in drive, and it has another lower pitch noise right in with the high pitch noise.
The noise sounds like two pieces of metal harshly scratching against one another. Also a wierd thing is, sometimes the noise has started when I am just driving down the street, and when i tab the brakes it stops. That is rare but it seems to be saying that it is not the brake. Whatever this is making me crazy. I took it to a Chevron near my house - they said that they didn't hear the noise - I think they did nothing to it and just decided to charge $12.50 for no reason. Lol. Man, it is just mindboggeling. I have no idea what this crazy noise is.
If anyone ahs any ideas please give it a write haha. I have heard stuff simple like getting my wheels aligned and have heard stuff about cleaning out my cat. converter. I don't know what to think. If anyone has had this problem, heard of this problem, or can randomly think of a reason for it please chime in. Thanks guys.

as for the problem it could be something as simple as the dust shield rubbing the rotor or something (if you have abs and disks...if not it could be like eric said). Take the wheels off and spin the hub and see if you can find it that way.
good luck
