How to reduce weight

Just going off of eric93se's post what are some of the things you guys have done to reduce weight on the car? I notice that just a 150 pounds less (ie no passenger) seems to make a difference. Anything you guys have ripped out that are not needed?

lotsa sound deadening and carpet. otherwise, it's all needed other than interior trim pieces.
you can be a moron and start removing bumpers and door supports and stuff, but only a moron would do stuff like that.

Yeah, figures as much I guess. How about replacing parts with lighter items? For instance a battery weighs a whole ton, a lighter battery perhaps, also tires and rims etc...

Back when I was into mountain biking just about every part on a bike could be replaced with after market items. What are the easy and cheap items to replace on a car with lighter items.

Also how much weight would it take to remove before this would become benificial?

And finally how many of you guys drive without your spare tire and has it ever come back to bite you in the butt?

Well, a rule of thumb is, for every 100 pounds you shed, you get a tenth faster in the 1/4. My dyno program shows it's 75 lbs for a tenth.

A spare tire, jack, trunk mat and cardboard, rear seat, and passenger seat amount to about 120 pounds. So, there ya go... right there, you are more than a tenth faster.

A WSP Y-pipe is definitely lighter than stock. A WSP testpipe is lighter than a stock cat. An aftermarket muffler is lighter. No AC belt is lighter.

I removed my seats at the track just b/c I am looking for that extra tenth. That's all, it's hardly noticable with the butt dyno.

But if you start cutting door beams, remove all panelling, all sound deadening, remove bumpers and other safety stuff, you can shave a couple hundred pounds. Which would only be good for a couple tenths. That's all. In my book, it's NOT worth the effort.

And do NOT take out your spare on the road just so you can be .03 faster in the 1/4 mile.

Your battery, speakers and head unit, wheels, gas (drive on 1/4), air conditioning stuff (who needs it in a race car ), power windows (convert to manual ), rear deck, headliner, lexan windshield, lexan rear windshield, lexan windows..etc etc. In the end, you'll get more respect by making your faster by making it more powerful rather than making it lighter.

You could get carbon fiber? It comes at a pretty penny, but, is worth it I think? Definetly for the hood!

I was going to say something like that.

You could also remove the wheels, engine, tranny, windows, doors, paint, and all the seats. That would definately lighten the load alot
