Back in August I bought a 1992 SE auto completely stock save for the tires. I loved the car for it's power and style but have a new problem with it.

I am going to give you my scenario and chime in if you have any ideas what it could be.

My cars starts fine and drives fine up until it starts to warm up, then all hell brakes lose. My car heats up way to fast and my gauge says that my engine is about to overheat, then I slam the A/C to hot and let it run and the heat goes down, but then it goes back up and comes down and so on and so on. Now during this time, my acceleration is totally hosed. I have none and my transmissions seems to shift by itself whenever it sees fit. My car was actually scaring me on the ride home last night. I have no idea what it is but the car has the original tranny and engine and has 140000 miles on it.

Now, I would love to know if anyone can tell me what the heck is going on with my car and why it hates me all of a sudden and how much it could cost.

Thanks.

Mike

Not sure - but I had something similar happen to another car of mine. It turned out that all the "blades" on the inside of the waterpump had disintegrated so that there was nealy zero coolant flow.

Has the water pump ever been replaced? I assume you've checked the obvious things - coolant level is ok. Also, could be a bad thermostat - not opening.

I'd start with coolant level, thermostat, then pump would be my next bet.

Good luck.

yeah

I checked the coolant level and got an oil change today just to see. They said that they would look and fill if necessary and they did. I drove home and the same thing was going on. What happenned with yours and what was the cost?

I hate it when my car breaks
