big prob with 92 max se

I replaced my ypipe with warpspeed..test drove it..it was fine.nice sound.went up the drive way.my brother sprayed water under the body with water to clean it.turned on the car again.idle is bad, like 500.it keeps going up and down repeatedly.up a little then back to 500 rpm.and the battery light is on.not really bright.just dim.jacked up the car.i messed up the o2 sensor.the wire was rubbing against the metal when i was driving it..wire got cut in half..repalced it with a new one from napa.turned the car on.still same thing.idle is bad and dim battery light is on.ok..then we replaced the alternator cuz not enough volts was going through the line.replaced it..same thing..CANT FIGURE WHATS WRONG..HELP ME..WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR.I GOT A 92 MAXIMA SE WITH DOHC.

Ooohh OOhhh OOHHh! I know exactly what your problem is.

Yes, you messed up your o2 sensor b/c the wires got pinched up against that metal lip. I had the same problem when I installed my WSP Y in my 92 SE Auto.

First, go out and get a new o2 sensor unless you can find a way to splice the wires back together. Before you install the new one, get a good pair of vice grips and lock them down on that metal lip. Now, attach a bar and pry the lip ALL the way downward. Make sure it'll be out of the way when the motor twists under acceleration.

When I had this problem, the wires got pinched, blew the ENG CONT fuse and this put my tranny in fail safe mode. What that is... is the tranny locks itself in 3rd gear. It's basically a "Limp Home" mode.

Until you bend that metal lip out of the way, it will continue to cut into the sensor wires. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

well..i cut some of the metal piece out of the way..the o2 sensor doesnt touch the metal..the wires just bend a little..and we covered the metal with foam and the wire with foam where it bends.the wires doesnt touch the metal.what im worried about is when the car turns.does the pipe move at all..cuz im thinking it bolted on to the engine tightly..only the cat and beyong swings around..welli drove the car today..sensor looks good..everythings good..we replaced the engine control fuse and fixed the problem..

Well, if you are looking at the motor when someone does a torque brake in D and then in R... you will see that the motor ONLY twist from front to the rear of the car. It should never twist left and right. Nor should the o2 sensor.

So if you got that metal lip completely out of the way, the sensor will not goes sideways and touch the metal lip. It will only move up and down and forward and backwards. So, I know you've got the metal lip out of the way. Don't worry about it now. Be happy with your new Y-pipe.
