Removing the weight in the trunk
Removing the weight in the trunk
I have some subs and amp now but wondering if I should remove the weight thing that is in the trunk(right behind the seat that hump that sticks out some of you guys know what I am talking about. It is only in the GXE I believe because I believe the SE do not have them which doesnt make any since. Should I leave it or take it out so the back of the box will mount flush to the back seats.
Any suggestions?
I am about to get the Amp and Subs wired tomorrow morning at Hifi Buys/Tweeter??

yup.. yank it out, but be sure to cover the holes over with something. they're directly above the gas tank, and it'll get a bit stinky back there if you don't cover the holes.
only thing it's there for is to help smooth the ride a bit and lower road noise. nothing wrong with removing it.

Should i just put cardboard and tape over them.........I guess I need to go to the Automotive store. The Subs and amp will smooth it out enough it probably weeighs the same.
you need something waterproof
at minimum use a sheet of ABS plastic or metal, then seal it with RTV silicone. nobody will ever see it back there anyway, so it doesn't matter how ugly it looks.

I was so excited I forgot to look at what it actaully was. But it worked well we will know in a couple of hours when I wake up to see if it is sealed good. But the box will make it disappear anyway

I could not find anything that size within the time I had The car is 14 years old and has no signs of rusts. Look at the pics on my homepage. I did my best with what I had so be it if it rots. The cover that sits over the spare is wood of some sort and it has not rotted out. Correct me if Im wrong I guess it is inorganic. I dont know how much longer I can stand this car not because of performance or reliability but because of not having A/C for the second straight summer(its been in the family since 1992). Number Two big lessoned learn if it rots.
the wood panel in the trunk does not go directly to the outside of the car. would you replace your sunroof or floorboard with a piece of wood? I didn't think so. the holes that the bolts go through on that metal weight go to the underside of the car. i.e. weather exposed...
also, what I was meaning was not to block everything with one large piece, but to cut 4 smaller pieces of metal and simply glue them over the holes. very simple, and takes about 10 minutes, with a minimum of parts or work.
