How do I do this? I always thought that you held on brake and revved engine then let off brake. But when I tried this before i let off the brake the car was already jerking liek the brakes weren't holdign or sumtin. I tried revving in neutral then putting in drive but only at low RPM because I don't know if that'll mess up tranny or what. Advice on how to do this/how effective/ect.

thanks,
PJ

yeah i would like to know also. what i always do is hold on the brake and then give it some gas to "burn out". it doesnt really "burn out" but it screeches the tires and takes off a little faster off the line. it doesnt work right because the car is front wheel drive. since the majority of the braking is done at the front wheels, we cant properly "powerbrake" because it cant spin the front wheels and brake at the same time. so i always hold on the brake, slam the accelerator, and let off the brake as i am flooring it. i once tried the nuetral thing. it messed up my tranny so i never did it again. one of my friends had a hyundai accent that always did that nuetral thing. after a couple of months, the tranny was shot. it wouldnt do anything but go in reverse. so i wouldnt advise that. im hopefully gonna get a protorque tc to be quicker off the line. talk to nismo87, he has one. but i would like to hear any suggestions on making an auto quicker off the line as well.

Burnouts

the way i did mine when it used to be automatic was squeezing the emergency brake as tight as i could, put the car in neutral and rev it until the 'Redline', then slam it to first gear. except, i have an STILLEN ECU in mine, so the 'Redline' is 7,000 rpms.

Neutral Drops

Honestly,

I was suprised that that tranny took as much as it did. I think that that was one of the best transmissions ever built (better than the 5-spd). I used neutral drop it almost everyday after school for about 1/2 a year. Then, i used to do it almost every sunday night. The tranny had about 80,000 miles before it went, and i bought it with 50,000. Those were the most brutal 30,000 miles that car ever had, besides that fact that the owner before was an old lady. LOL

holding there with emergency brake? Does that lock rear tires so that u didn't go anywhere? need4pwr was the transmission gradually messing up (slipping, ect) b4 it flat otu went so that u basically knew it was gonna go? Anytone else done this in a way that I won't lose my transmission, because I just tried and it was tight but I dont wanna have to drop a couple G's to get it fixed. Also starts off the line...how you effectively do this? the way james said by holding brake...then slamming gas and then letting off brake simultaneously??? Because you cnat hodl vbrake revv then let off because it won't hold it there.

having your foot on the brake and the accelerator is very bad for the tranny. it puts too much force on it. my friend used to do it with his thunderbird sc, and he messed up the tranny. it's like trying to tow a boat, it's too heavy and the car just sits there spinning its tires.

you wanna be seen? put a system in your car ;p hehe

the way i've done burnouts was by just pulling the hell outta that ebrake, since it's all pressure based, and just flooring it. i've laid some decent patches

Re: wheres the fun?

Hey,

If you wanna have fun, it will cost ya. The more fun you wanna have, the more it will cost. When i used to race with my automatic, i used to brake lock it (hold the foot brake and the gas at the same time) I don't think that messed up my tranny, i think it messed up my tranny mounts and engine mounts.

There was an MP3 made of me roasting 'em-->

when I was at E-town last fall.
I simply pulled onto the burnout pad of the track, set the e-brake, powerbraked 1500rpm (with the shifter in 1st (auto here). Then I released the foot brake and punched the throttle at the same time. The tires break loose and I sit there, roasting both front tires (for some reason, both tires would go up simultaneously) I used to heat the tires for about 5-6 seconds without the car moving one inch (on dry ground not in the water) until I released the e-brake.
It worked equally as well on the streets also.
The MP3 caught the last 2-3 seconds of it.
Maybe someone could upload it here. Jeff K was the one who made it for me.

yeah dude, braking and flooring it out in water is different. that just makes your tires stickier. but braking and flooring it on dry ground is bad.

thanx guys

I think I got it...Basically to burnout set ebrake, and then just punch it or maybe powerbrake a little to gte started. I think if I give it just a little gas wit foot on brake it wont hurt it. Does the ebrake hold the rear tires though? is that why you don't go anywhere?

pulling the ebrake and when you're moving to do a doughnut isn't a great idea..you can snap your brake line. bleh

Didn't I say that it wasn't in water--->

I KNOW I did say that.. It was on the launching pad at the strip, just before I staged..
BTW, I also know first hand how you can damage your tranny that way. I blew mine from overheating while at the track also.

Keep thread going

I wanna get this to over 25 posts so that it has flames, haha. So another question...automatics if you start out ni first gear then shift it into second, third, overdrive, like that....Kinda like in drag racers wit slam shifters (except I'll be more tapping then slamming into gear) does this provide better manual like performance? Also, does this mess up tranny like basically all the burnout stuff ^^^??? Just tryin to find ways to get best performance out of my car when I need it.

one of my friends used to have an accord auto and when we raced he did the manual shift on the auto cuz he thought it would make him faster. honestly i think it made him slower. regardless, i toasted him everytime. i think the manual shifting may make you slower cuz its for towing and stuff. it might screw up the tranny by flooring it and not towing anything. dont know for sure though, never tried it.

i meant to say that when your tires are wet its alright to floor it while holding the brake pedal down, the there won't be any grip at first

nice one rice

when u were just sitting there all there is, is a low "hmmmmm" not a loud screaching from the tires, I assume you were burning cuz there was smoke pouring from around tires...but surprising quiet when I do it, all the neighbors are looking out their windows!
