Forgive me, but, CUPHOLDERS...
#1
Before saying anything, I'm sorry for bringing up this dreaded subject once again.
Now that that's over with, here's the deal: I am prototyping a 3rd gen maxima cupholder this week that I have designed myself. It is laser cut, and press broke. I am making the proto out of black steel, and eventually will be available in real brushed aluminum. Read on if interested...
First, I only know that it works on Auto's, but may work on Manual's, I would just have to try one out first. Anyways, it will mount where your coin tray and A/T switch are currently located. The first step is to move the A/T switch to a new location: I chose the center console, driver's side, half-way up between the E-brake and the armrest. I had to splice into the harnesses (2) with about 2 feet of more wire to extend it to the new location. I used a drill and a utility knife to carve a new hole, and it looks good; just took my time(about 1 hour). Then after popping out the coin tray, it should screw right in. It will hold two cups, but I'm not sure yet how big I can get in there, but they will at least hold coke cans and small/medium fast food drink containers.
To continue with the project, I need a little help... Someone with a M/T, please post a real clear pic (or two) of the center console. And someone with an aluminum dash kit, which direction is the grain, up/down or left/right? That will determine the grain of the cupholder as well.
I will try and post pics of it in my maxima as soon as it's complete. The cost will be very minimal: I'll know within 7-10 days.
What do you guys think? Thanks for reading all this, and any info that I asked for is greatly appreciated!!!

sounds cool! hmm i htink i may be interested, i duno how willing i am to relocate the a/t swtich, ill look at my max and see how complicated it will be, but sounds good! how will this look though? i dont understand how it will come up from the bottom of the dash, and what will be the base for the cups? anyways looking forward to pics, and im very interested, as i cant stand not having cup holders in my car...
Btw... what about just simple in the center armrest? seems a lot easier to do, just make a plate with one or 2 holes that layes over the top of that compartment?
