LED Lights

Forgive me if I'm stupid, but I've heard a lot of talk about having LED's for the license plate lights, bumper lights, etc.

What exactly are people talking about? How is this done and where can I get them?

I've seen the red ones for the tail lights but I didn't know they made some for other applications.

I put them in my car. I don't have pics yet though. The emit a very white light..almost flourescent-like. They are a bit dimmer than the factory lights but the color is really nice and not ricey at all!
