Alarm not dis-engaging
Alarm not dis-engaging
Anybody ever have a problem where you unlock your door with the key, open the door and the alarm goes off? This doesn't happen every time. If I turn the key twice to unlock all the doors and they unlock, then the alarm dis-engages. When all the locks don't pop up on the second turn, then the alarm will go off when the door opens. If I unlock from the passengers side, the alarm dis-engages every time.

(This really ticks the guys off when the car is in for service. They can't figure out how to shut the alarm off)
My car has the exact same problem. I haven't wanted to just replace random pieces so I just use the keypad to open the vehicle.. but as you said, it always annoys the service folks.
Same thing exactly.. driver's side.. the alarm doesn't always go off.. and you can tell whether it will go off or not based on whether or not all the locks open on the second turn.
I wonder if it's something mechanical that's not making contact all the time.. it seems more likely that it's something in the actual door/key cylinder, since it seems to happen on the driver door, which is the most used.. if it were just some solder in the brains of the door locking timer or whatever, it would happen to the passenger side as often..

I don't have the combo of my keypad. Do you know how to find the combo? No ones been able to tell me... not even the dealer.
I have pulled the door panel. I could not find anything wrong mechanically.
I was wondering if it may be the door lock timer. Sometimes the lock/unlock switch on the door panel doesn't work. If I keep flipping it, the locks eventually work. I have also noticed that when the alarm doesn't disengage with the outside key, the lock/unlock switch isn't working either.

sounds like your door lock timer needs to be resoldered. it's under the driver's kick panel to the right of the steering column in a black box held in by two screws. take it out and solder the joints.
as for the alarm, it could be related to the lock timer so do that first and if it doesn't fix it, it's probably related to the key cylinder grounding.
ok couple of things here:
1. when the lock/unlock switch inside the car doesn't work, that is your door lock timer. replace it or resolder the relays inside. mine did that a couple of times and i got a different timer box and it works fine now.
2. about the driver's door-specific problem, i have that too. mostly after it rains. i think it's a short somewhere in the handle/lock mechanism. i'm going to open mine up today, i've got to put a window reg. in anyway.
3. another thing i've noticed is that when i lift my driver's handle up from the outside when the car is locked, the dome light no longer goes on. it used to. so this leads me to believe that a ground wire is probably shorting somewhere. b/c that would cause everything controlled by that assembly to malfunction (i.e., the dome light and the door locks)
if anyone figures anything out, be sure to let the rest of us know!

Its something ive sorta learned to live with on my car, but it would be GREAT if i could fix it

I haven't replaced it...I just use the keyless entry now.
I second the sensor bit.
it seems to be inconsistent enough (at least on mine) to be a sensor malfunction.
so I just got in the habit of double unlocking before I open the door

my problem is that double unlocking doesnt work sometimes
thats when the alarm goes off
when the double unlock feature DOES work (and all locks go up), thats how i know the alarm wont go off on me.
It seems to consistently happen after it rains, it happened again today... so i dont think its a mechanical thing, cause it goes off and on
I tried to unhook my alarm the other day but couldnt find it, haha. I looked all over under the steering wheel panel, but couldnt find it.. so then I thought maybe I need to take the steering wheel panels off, but halfway through doing that I decided that that wouldnt reveal anything new.. am i just missing the alarm, or do I need to take panels off to get to it?

Check out the door latch and you will see what I mean. The alarm sounds when the door lock button only pops up half way when you turn the key. Some times it pops up all the way and you are fine, other times....beep....beep...beep.
my car does this all the time, and sense i dont have a keypad i had to find a temporary solution.
So, what i did was take out the horn fuse so it will shut up, and then take out the electronic ignition fuse so it will start, and then put the electronic ignition fuse back in for the seat belts to engage. Its a pain but it works.
Also, i tried having the alarm removed, and the idiots at the nissan dealer removed the relay fuse instead, and it went off again the very next day. I would have thought the relay fuse would have done the trick though.
Anybody know how much it will cost to remove the alarm, and if i could do it myself?

I just went out and started messin with mine, because i never gave it much effort myself before, and what i did was i took the door panel off.
Then i was feeling around to figure out what stuff was, and i felt a stucture by the lock assembly ( not the handle) that has two wires going to it. I figured the wires are probable to lock and unlock the door, and one might be for the alarm, or something like that. So i just unplugged both wires, and i think it will work. When i push the button to lock or unlock the doors the drivers one wont work, but small price to pay to be able to lock my doors without the alarm goin off.

I have this same problem with my car. It used to happen every once and a while but now it happens every time the doors lock. The passesngers side still works so I usually just throw my keys to that person when it happens. I always thought it was mechanical... like the key is worn down too much or the lock cylinder is worn. I think I can switch the lock cylinders from the passenger to the driver side... that hopefully will fix my problem... that or I can try to get a new key cut... If anyone figures it out then please tell us the answer
I realize this thread is ancient, but I'm now having this problem. After an hour of reading similar threads, this one seems the most like my problem. I have seen suggestions that it could be a broken solder in the door lock switch on the driver's side door panel, a broken solder in the Door lock timer (though that seems unlikely given that I have no issues unlocking the door using the interior unlock switch), or something about a grounding from the actual lock in the door. Possibly related, when lifting my door handles, my dome light doesn't come on and I don't get that fancy green ring around the keyhole. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions? Anyone?

I think the problem is the Door Lock Actuator. it gets all gummed up and it wont release all the way. sensor thinks someone pulled it from inside. or something. and alarm goes off. we should all clean them and get them working again (myself included)
wow this is excatly why i joined this site.. this exact problem.. i dont know much about cars so i try not to mess with any thing but i disconnected one of the horns in the front and ripped the other wire cus i couldnt connect it. but my question is how would this be fixed? (what to tell my tech) and how much would it cost??
Yea....my '90 SE has the lock issue, but the alarm is messed up to the point where to just to START my car, I must open and close my trunk, THEN unlock the driver's side door. Would this be due to the sticky actuator as well????
Well. if your door lock doesnt come up all the way when you turn the key. that is caused by the actuator. might clean it regardless. then 2nd I'd guess your alarm is definately on it's way out and I'd suggest getting a new one.
I forgot to mention that it makes no difference if I turn it a bunch of times. If it doesn't unlock all the doors on the second turn, it won't unlock them all or disable the alarm. That's when I know I have to unlock the passenger door to prevent the alarm.
So then, how do I go about cleaning the door lock actuator?
