replacing engine

take it easy guys, dont flame me. im not gonna ask about throwing a twin turbo in my max.

well we came to the conclusion that we are gonna need a new VE in the maxima. we started to take alot of things apart so far. we found a VE engine for like $900 out of a wrecked max. we are trying to do the job ourselves. we've replaced things like axles, transmissions, struts, clutches, header and other stuff. some on this car and some on others. anyways, does anybody have any suggestions about replacing the engine. what is the best way to remove it. should we take it out with the tranny? any tricks that you guys know? ive never done an engine swap before. any suggestions would help. especially from you hardcore guys. i know you are out there. give me a hand. help me get this maxima back on the road.

thanks
Joshua

I've taken my motor out both ways. Bottom: Manual says to take it from the bottom but unless you have an engine jack, it's harder than hell:
1) You have to raise the car higher than hell to clear the engine
2) Teetering the engine on a normal jack is nerve racking and dangerous.

From the top:
1) ALOT easier! I used a pulley that was installed in the garage rafters but a cherry picker would do the same.
2) ALOT safter! You just have to find some places to mount the chains(on either side of the engine)

Take the tranny out first. It's easier. If you don't care about the car that this engine is coming out of, try taking both out at one time. It WILL be harder though.
