Tranny broken??

recently, i was getting ready to go to school. Warmed up the car.. put it in Drive, but it didn't engage. I'm just sitting there on a slight uphill on Drive.. yet its as if it was on neutral. The engine was just revving but going no where. I quickly pulled the e-brake. I put it in D1 and it worked. After about a couple yards.. I put it back to Drive and everything is normal. Been doing this all week. What could be wrong?

could be a tranny bout to go out, or it could just be your linkage in the gear selector is wearing, or any number of other things.

go to the ammco website and print their free diagnostic flyer. hopefully it's something simple.

does this only happen on hills? uphill or downhill? does it happen after the tranny is warmed up? does it do anything strange while in gear?

Re: Tranny broken??

sounds simply like a shifter bushing problem...$2 part at Nissan, and a easy DIY fix. if not that, the linkage is out of wack, another pretty simple fix as well. don't worry your tranny is no dying.

yeah it usually happens on a uphill. There was a time it happened on a stop light. (testing purposes) I actually took it out for a drive this morning... everything seems normal now. It engages right away. But when i was going to move my car to park it on the side walk.. it happened again.

goto Nissan and buy the 2 necessary shifter bushings...have those relaced and the problem should go away. I had the same problem, one time it was the bushings were worn and another time it was the linkage.
