92 SE Seatbelt Tensioner question !!!

On my 92 SE, I think my seat belt tensioners might be defective. On all the cars I've had I can get the belts to 'lock' if pulled quickly by hand. I've always used that as sort of a test. On this car I can't get the belts to lock. On my 96 Max, the belts 'lock' fine.

Any thoughts as to if I have defective belts or not? Aren't the belts suppose to have a lifetime warranty?

Pulling seatbelts out quickly sometimes will lock it, sometimes it won't. But our seatbelts works mostly by inertia, I think. If you can find a steep incline, get your max on it pointing downhill, and then try your seat belt there. It should lock.

What concerns me is that I can pull and lock the belt for the Passanger side on a level road. So I should be able to do the same on Dri. belt too.

both should lock pretty similarly, I dont know why the drivers one wont

you may want to take out the center console and take a look at the retracting mechanism (it's right under the center console storage bin). The piece that locks it is pretty simple - it has some teeth that are angled so they will catch in one direction but not in the other and then there is an arm that will move down to lock the teeth.

Yeah, seatbelt components are technically under lifetime warranty but you may have a hard time finding a dealer to cooperate with that

That confirms my suspicion about the lifetime warr. I'll call the Nissan dealer and find out if they'll service that for free.

Thanks
