1992 Maxima GXE help??
#1
Hi guys,
This is my first post as i just found this website among other Maxima pages. I was surprised there was such a large Maxima community. Pretty Good - These are bad a@@ cars!!
Anyway, just yesterday i noticed a funny sound coming from the front of the car while accelerating slowly, when you accelate fast there's nothing. The sound is hard to describe but it ALMOST sounds as if the tire is rubbing the wheel well. I checked the tire and the nothings touching and everything is tight under the car. The car has 150,000 kilometers if that helps any.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance

Welcome!
How loud is the noise?
Could it be an exhaust leak?
the VG engine (the one in your '92) has a problem with exhaust studs breaking, but it makes a "tick tick tick" noise, almost like a bad lifter. Usually this only happens when the engine is cold, but if the exhaust manifold starts warping, it can happen all the time.
under hard acceleration, the rest of the engine noise usually drowns out everything that isn't screaming loud.
What about brakes? could it just be brake noise?
I've never heard of this before, but I'll try and help anyway.
