Is it bad to...

Since my car is a/t - will it hurt/screw up the tranny if i shift down to 1st, (redline) to 2nd and so on?

also - will it hurt to downshift to slow down? just got new rotors and want them to last.

1 - yes -
2 - yes - price of transmission rebuild..vs. new rotors - you do the math

Exactly, same thing I was thinking. I only downshift to speed up, downshifting to me is not good and I think like DanNY said brake rotors are a lot cheaper than having to rebuild a transmission.

common sense here..

Transmission: $1500.
brake rotors: $150.

which would you wear out first?

I do it all the time.

If you rev-match, there is not much harm to your trans. Sure there is extra wear that you would avoid just using the brakes, but I don't do it arbitrarily.

yeah, i dont shift down to 2nd while i'm at 50 mph.

like - kinda how the power/comfort switch is...except down shifting. see what i'm sayin? nothing to make my car BOOOOUNCE forward. (just a tiny bit) but it also adds to the exhaust sound.
