Turbo VG guyz

I had a dream last night that my VG was turbo
I have a lot of questions about putting turbo on a VG. I know all about the parts so I don't want to get into that. Let's start off with; who here has a VG turbo setup, was it worth it, and describe what it's like (from getting whiplashed to hearing the pssst!)
I need to know!!

I ain't an idiot . I do my homework, I ask questions, and If I want something, I work hard for it. I have friends with their turbocharged eclipses, and civics. I've driven VR4s and twin turbo supras. They all feel different. I just want to know, to feel what my max could become. I want my head jerkin back into MY headrest and know that this is MY Nissan Maxima. Not a supra, 3000gt, or lil *** civic. I know my baby has potential, and I know its my job to bring it out. So, please don't give me none of that newbie crap. I just want to know in your own words how it "feels" when your driving down a road and some punk***** riceboy revs his stuff next to yours and you know he'll regret it.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA...the first post of that thread is a complete joke!!! there is MUCH more to building a VGT than BOVs, IC pipes and intercoolers....like I said once you start the project you realize these things. as for how it feels...probably like any other turbocharged sedan....you claim to have ridden in all these different turbo cars so it shouldn't be that hard to imagine for you.

I feel sorry for you. It seems you lost all passion. I hope I don't end up like that.
So, I take it that the turbo setup wasn't worth the time, the money, or the effort. But if there is someone out there who could convince me otherwise, speak up.

turbo VG...

firstly, my maxima is not turbo-ed, but i think it would be a great feeling to have a car as unique as a turbocharged 3rd gen. there are few other people on the road who will expect to see a 3rd gen with boost. and for the record, just because someone has "newbie" underneath their user name doesn't automatically mean they don't know what they're talking about. i could easily raise my level from "newbie" status by just concurring with posts by guys like matt and craig. we're all friends here, so try not to alienate those members who may just be getting started and are only trying to learn because they like their 3rd gens as much as the rest of us.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Turbo VG guyz

ummmmmm, find one thread where I've EVER written that its not worth it!! aside from the two B16 swaps I've done, the helping Max O/D with his VGT swap has been the most time consuming, troublsome yet MOST FUN and EDUCATIONAL auto projects I've worked on so far! so please find where I said its not worth it...

I'm not downing anyone's ambitions, but maybe I just see this project as more than just cool sounding BOVs and stuff like that...no offense.

Actually, it's not at all worth it. You have to have a few screws loose to really want to do it. With the time and money invested, you could buy a better car... maybe one that isn't rusting out from leaking fuel-filler stems or has a clock that works more than 70% of the time or doesn't mysteriously lock you out of the car for no reason.

...but if you have a few screws loose and really love your Maxima for some strange reason then go for it. It can be done, but I found out the hard way that it's not anywhere near easy or cheap.

no one called you names...but keep in mind civics have turbo kits that basically bolt on to the motor.

EVERYTHING..and i mean EVERYTHING to turbo a VG maxima needs to be custom made. oil lines, coolant lines, down pipe, electrical, etc etc etc...EVERYTHING. are you up to the task? do you know what you need to do to get it all working? it's A LOT more than what's in that post. it sounds so nice on paper..but when you're elbow deep in grease and coolant and oil you'll realize that it's much much harder than you think.

you know how many people come on here and spout all this BS about them turboing their car and doing it in a week or whatever? if i had a dollar everytime i saw someone claim to be doing turbo or setting one up and not produce a damn thing i would be rich.

if you want to know how it feels..then build it yourself. show us your skill and that you're not an "idiot"...(not saying you are)

sorry I can't be more helpful

maybe someday I'll stop being so selfish and maybe I can actually help out someone for once

as for VG turbo, there are a ton of factors that you will have control of when/if you do your turbo setup so you will have a lot of control over how it ends up feeling

I dont drive a turbo vg, but I do drive a turbocharged 3rd gen. It took me a whole yr to complete my project (between the research and deployments. I had no help, and very little welding experience but I was determined to make it happen. I went through a lot of headachs and almost gave up. So was it worth it? Hell yeah(then again I have a few screws loose. Every time I get in the car and hear that turbo spool I crack a smile. Its a lot of hard work but the feeling of self accomplishment really made it worth it for me. I urge anyone who is willing to boost their max to go for it. Its not impossible, and if you shop around when you piece everything up for your project it really can be done reasonably (2500-3000) but then again you need to make sure your max is ready for boost
****ty max= ****ty results.

i definitely didn't mean to offend either craig or matt (if thats what you're implying). i only meant that if i copied the opinions expressed in the most knowledgeable members' posts (i.e. those of matt, craig, etc.) that i would sound smart and raise my level from "newbie." craig, i think we all know that your faqs and how-tos are some of the most helpful resources a 3rd gen owner can peruse. so anyway, take it easy.

turbo's not all custom for vg, some parts can come from the vg30det.
