Re: vb mod

VB mod is another name for "shift kit". All it does is make the shifts firmer and more noticable. I bark the tires every time I shift into 2nd while I'm agressive on the throttle. So, it's BY Far worth it to me.

www.maximumtuning.net in LI, NY does the mod for your tranny. This is the ONLY company I would trust with my VB.

Ok, a valve body is a part that is in your automatic tranny. You remove this VB and send it to their shop. They do a recalibration which requires replacing of springs and such in order to raise the fluid pressure... which was cause quick and firm shifts.

Again, I would ONLY trust Maximum Tuning with my VB. If you contact a local tranny shop, they will be like... "oh yeah, I can make your shifts firmer". They will remove your VB and drill some freakin holes in it to allow more fluid through and do some other stuff that is only done with domestic trannies. You get your car back, every gear will be banging into place and then boom. A VB is nothing to mess with.

ONLY trust Maximum Tuning or maybe Level 10.

If you are located near Long Island, NY, then it will take you a few hours at most if you drive to Maximum Tuning's shop. If you do it yourself, then you will remove your VB yourself, pack it, ship it, ... overnight.... then they get it, unpack it, modify it, then ship it back,... overnight... then a few days later at the soonest, you will be up and running. At the latest... it could take 6 months like it did me. FYI, do not even think about going with MobileTek aka "Don in Texas". He will give you the shaft like he's done to many people up here. Plus, he doesn't know how to modify any VB except for the VB in the RE4F04A tranny in the 4th gen auto.

Yeap. Call ahead and see if he has any extra valve bodies he can swap in your car. If not, it will take up to 3 hours cause he has to modify your existing VB. www.maximumtuning.net

There's a post somewhere on the GD forum for a group deal, I think.

This is an old thread, but good job doing a search first. If you check the group deal forum there is a group deal that just started for the month of October that you can get in on. Normal price is $375 but they are doing it for $325. (I believe)

To the guys who have this mod, what stage are you sporting (there are three), and how does each stage behave? Also, how has this positively or negatively impacted your tranny wealth-being, and were there any other side effects resulting from the recalibration?

I haven't done this mod myself, but from what I understand it actually prolongs the life of your tranny , because the shifts are faster. I believe Aaron has a tranny cooler with his VB mod, but I'm not sure if this is necessary. Maybe he will enlighten us. Also, you can go to the website from the link that he posted above and it will tell you the different levels and how they behave.

I've done a billion write ups on the org about Maximum Tuning's VB mod. Search for a post by me with "Maximum Tuning" in it. I love it. It's my best mod.

Aaron, what stage do you have, and was there ANY side effect from having this upgrade? I've read the old posts, that's why I waited for a thread like this to pop up to check on the status of the VB modded cars. Sometimes the symptoms take time to show up. It's not a small thing for me to be without a car for 4-5 days, I need reinforced insurance that this mod is as reliable as it gets.

Oh I see. No problem. Well this mod has not changed since the firstr day I got it. I did this job, I think, around a year ago. So, ever since, I've been a happy camper. Just tell all your friends to NOT deal with Don Cooper aka MobileTek. I am just making sure you know that.

Call Jeff at Maximum Tuning. He's a great guy and will help you out. I think they are doing a sale right now for around $325.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I have the middle stage.... 2. It's the streetable version that's not FULL track. Unless you're planning on pushing 500fwhp and having your Maxima as a trailor car, then you don't need Stage 3. Stage 1, is just what the site says, not really for performance. It's more like a Transgo shift kit.

But stage two, I'm barking 1-2 shift all over town with my AWESOME Yoko AVS ES100 17" tires. My last tires... geez, you don't want to know how bad I would bark my tires. 2-3 shift is, OH SO very quick.

You have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to worry about if you call Maximum Tuning. BTW, you're asking the right guy about a VB mod on a 3rd gen. Have fun!

Thank you very much aaron, that's about what I wanted to know. I basically needed first hand experience opinion in regard to the behavior and long-term reliability of a stage. I don't trust anything a website puts up for sales pitches.
