variable intake question

1. what years did the max come with a variable length intake.
2. are they interchangeable among different years?
3. how do they work(ie: what determains when and where and how to open).

1. 92-94 SE's

2. Yes but the auto's didn't seem to get the VI

.

3. ECU sends power to the soleniod around 5100-5200rpm to open the VI.

And what about the dual plenum on the vg's? Is that not considered a variable intake? Also, can anyone explain how the dual plenum works- I can't tell from looking at it.
